One new thing I like is the ability of the iPhone Twitterrific app to update my Twitter Location information. I've noticed that when I'm logged in and viewing my /home, the Location information is not shown. Instead, I have to look at my profile.

It would be nice if I could see my location from my /home. I was expecting to see it just under the "Currently" section that shows my latest tweet.

Also, is it be possible for other apps to read my Twitter location by the API in addition to setting it? I'm thinking it would be nice after I updated by Twitterrific, that location could get pushed to places like Brightkite or Fire Eagle.

Finally, could the location field be timestamped and/or API stamped?
It would be nice to see something like this: Location: Twitter HQ (set 08:19 AM July 12, 2008 by Twitterrific). This would be identical to how Tweets show time and API client.

I don't want Twitter to try to do all the things Brightkite, Whrrl, Loopt, etc. do, but a few tweaks to the already existing Location field could be very useful for people.

My last Twitter update to Facebook was September 11th 2007...

Is there some part of the Facebook API that makes it impossible to keep updating them if my statuses are private? Or is this a ploy to get everyone to open up?

Does this mean that other apps doing similar things are also insecure and leaking my private information? e.g. I use the Dopplr app on Facebook too.

Akismet-like Spam Repository for Twitter

Lately, I've been getting spam profiles following me nearly daily. It's getting rather annoying and someone needs to do something about it.

To help solve the problem, I believe we need to have some sort of spam repository.

If someone flags another profile (not just blocking them), anyone after that the flagee follows has the flagee automatically added to a list of potential problem profiles to be confirmed. Once the flagee was confirmed enough times, they're automatically taken out of the repository until someone else adds them. You wouldn't have to call it a Spam or anything, keep it vague to make sure no one feels singled out.

Just an idea. I'd love to work with getting this setup. Something like Akismet (blog comment spam blocker; http://akismet.com/) for Twitter would be amazing and pretty easy to impliment.

Rate limiting on non-authenticated requests

Hi.

I'm getting rate limited on the public API - calling http://twitter.com/statuses/user_time..., non-authenticated, I get
"Rate limit exceeded. Clients may not make more than 100 requests per hour.".

According to the documentation : "Rate limiting applies only to authenticated API requests; requests for the public timeline do not count."

Could you shed some light please?

friends_timeline API call suddenly requires auth

Hi,

I've been using friends_timeline for a long time now, and today I've noticed it's asking me to enter my username and password for the API.

Whereas before, regardless of whether I was logged in, or if I wanted to change the username to al3x, I would be able to see the timeline.

What's suddenly changed?? Or more importantly - why?!? I can see the documentation said it required authentication, but the actual API request didn't - so there's functionality built around that feature.

Please, please consider removing this downgrade.

I'm constantly getting this alert box when i log into twitter:

A username and password are being requested by http://twitter.com. The site says: "Twitter API"

what can i do to have it stop?

Creating a desktop application with built in time limits, will prevent users from abusing the service.
I am in the process of creating an application for MAC OSX, Windows, Linux,

Once I have a working URL to update the status with a message, I can add in a timer that will not allow the user to post over and over again, sounds like a good thing, huh, refer to my unanswered post for more information. thanks

How can I implement a Twitter source parameter using XMLHttpRequest?

I recently received a Twitter source parameter for my Dashboard widget. I am not sure how to implement it, however. I am using XMLHttpRequest to post the status updates (update.xml), and don't know if I should insert the parameter as a header (xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("source","my_app");) or as an argument appended to the main URL (...update.xml?source=my_app). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Every time I login twitter asks "Authentication Required" for the the "Twitter API" but im using the the main website. Its getting annoying.

I haven't signed on with a twitter client for over a day now and my client still says that I've been paused. "Limit exceeded, paused 5 mins." I've tried multiple different clients. This has been happening now for about a week.

Why is twitters service going down down??? They are reporting 99% uptime but a good chunk of people cant use the service including me. I cant send out a twitter message be because of the limit API. Instead of a fast twitter service that doesn't work i would rather have a slow twitter service that is buggy and works! Ok i will get to the point here when will the limit API be over. Hint Hint if you have been getting more than average loads on your web site you need an upgrade....

I know you're not the owner of twitter100 - http://twitter100.com/ - but I'm not at all happy that they seem to be able to grab any tweets, including from those of us who have protected our tweets. Their twitter account (akiyan) and blog - http://www.akiyan.com/ - are not in English, so I don't know if leaving a comment there would make any difference. I find this very problematic and disturbing.

Multiple Twitter clients think I've exceeded my API request limit, but this simply isn't so -- no Twitter clients or apps have been open on my computer for the past 8 hours.

Get this with multiple clients (Spaz, Twhirl).

Please advise?

(Using the website itself works fine.)

Determining the status that a reply replied to

I'd like some help as to which Api call to use to determine which status is replied to. For example, on the public_timeline, you would see a reply formatted as follows: @user, message, less than x seconds ago, in reply to @2nduser(is a url that points to originating status).
I'm interested in the api call that determines the originating status message. Can't quite figure it (have gone through the documentation but can't find it) out so any help is appreciated. And yes, this is a novice user. Thanks in advance. P.S am coding in python and am using the python-twitter api implementation. Thanks.
