How would you prefer to report Twitter spam? Last reply on July 04, 2008 20:02.
How would you, as a member of the Twitter community, like to flag potential spammers? Right now you can block a spammer or report them via email. We're working on spam handling presently, and I'd like to know what the simple, unobtrusive solution looks like from your point of view. A "report spam" button on profiles, áa Gmail? -

Add Followers/Following metrics and Follow/Block buttons to New Follower e-mail Last reply on June 12, 2008 22:20.
Like many other people, I'm seeing an increase in new followers who are following hundreds or thousands of people in a short amount of time in an attempt to get people to follow them back. When I navigate to the new follower's page, it's pretty clear that the person is a "Spitter" (Spam + Twitter = Spitter) by just looking at their Followers / Following numbers - e.g. Following 5,082 but only 43 Followers. I am going through this exercise about five times a day and it's really starting to take the joy out of Twitter.
Please consider changing the New Follower e-mail notification so that the the Followers / Following metrics are included in the e-mail. Even better, can you add the Follow and Block buttons into the e-mail? This doesn't solve the spam problem but it would go a long ways towards minimizing the impact. Thanks!mdoeff reported this problem on March 26, 2008 16:16. Scott Cranfill joined mdoeff and 18 other people reporting this problem.

How about daily and weekly versions of New Follower email? Last reply on May 01, 2008 21:11.
Not having the New Follower email for the past couple of days made me think about how often I need to know about new followers. I decided that getting an email alert seconds after someone starts to follow me is overkill and becomes a distraction, especially when the new follower is a spammer, which is about 50% of the time for me.
How about adding a consolidated version of that email with two options: weekly and monthly. Most discussion forums include this type of "digest'" option and I think it would work perfectly here.mdoeff shared this idea on April 13, 2008 17:20. Require captcha on Follow Last reply on April 15, 2008 03:25.
Last week, Mashable wrote an excellent post called 'Is Twitter About to Have a Big Spam' problem. One of the suggestions that was proposed is requiring captcha when following new people on Twitter. Yes, this would probably result in complaints from people who like the one-click follow option that is available today. But there are just too many people abusing the one-click Follow feature today through the use of bots and screen-scraping tools to "mass follow" hundreds of people in a short amount of time in an attempt to build their audience on Twitter.
There are a few ways to make the captcha less intrusive to users who are not abusing the Follow feature.
1. Only require captcha after someone has followed a large number of people (e.g. 200) in a short period of time
2. Only require captcha sporadically - e.g. after adding the 25th friend, after the 50th friend, etc.
Please consider adding this feature soon because we don't want Twitter to turn in to MySpace and there are clear signs that it's going in that direction.mdoeff shared this idea on April 02, 2008 14:02. brianpeiris joined mdoeff and 8 other people who like this idea.
