I just added twitter as an IM friend on Google Talk, by clicking 'add contact', then pasting in
twitter@twitter.com, then inviting to gtalk.
The add worked just fine -- and quickly -- and was very impressive.
However, I believe that (at least for the procedure I followed for the add) Gmail emits a "<me> wants to chat" email. This email bounced. Here's a bowdlerized version, which will probably have disastrous formatting; if a tech support person with an @twitter.com email would like a copy of the original I'll send it along.
