I think it would be awesome to be able to make groups (or have them premade by you, to reduce crap)...
I know there is another thread covering this, but im talking about something different i think... But maybe not...
What i would like to see is:
The ability to make groups (or like i said, use pre-made ones), lets say for example a BMX group. Anyone has the ability to join this group, but only if the location in their profile is setup (would be best if you could enter your address in, and use the google api to convert that to longitude and latitude like when you add gps coordinates to a tweet). Now when you add a group you are given the option of range, meaning how far outside of your location/coordinates you want to tweet with. This would allow you to organize thing with people you haven't met, without having an overload of posts that don't matter because you live to far away. For example (and sorry im explaining this poorly):
I join the group BMX
My location is set to (Location would have to be set to use groups) 41.7044647,-81.37609315 - Euclid, Ohio...
I would then set the distance i would like, lets say, 15 Miles (this is already a feature of a pocketwit on my phone, i can search for tweets within a radius of my gps location)
Now once in the group, i can only see posts of people within that range, this would allow me to tweet to the group and say something like "Anyone up for a ride in euclid today?"
This message would only be relayed to people who have a radius set that im in, allowing the groups to be used for actual useful social networking and not causing a group (without the location feature) to have 100 posts every 10 min, because i have no use reading the post of someone 3 states away from me...
It would be nice because you could have groups (and again, i think it would be best to have premade groups, and maybe an area to request a new group where X number of people have to back the idea for that group, to reduce crappy groups) such as:
Clubbing, Bars, BMX, Skateboarding, Football, Paintball, Cars, Chess (you get the point)...
Being able to only communicate with people local, or at least somewhat local, so you can plan events, meet new people and grow that club locally...
Ill throw down some more ideas as i go... I was trying to stay within the feasible realm when i brainstormed this... The map/location stuff should be simple using the google api, and the gps radius function is already in use in that application for windows mobile (pocketwit) and im sure is part of the twitter api... The voting system for new groups is pretty basic (i believe)... As for the actual group function, i have no clue, but im sure its being worked on...
thanks to anyone who read this, its just an idea for something i would love... But twitter is pretty awesome as it is...
