Cannot Stop Receiving System Messages from Twitter Last reply on July 02, 2008 14:47.
My phone is getting system messages from Twitter every 60 seconds. I tried following "twitter_status" and began getting a message every minute that said "You are now following twitter_status..." I got frustrated after receiving 30+ notifications so I turned off mobile notifications. This didn't help, so I went on the website and deleted my device. Now the "you are now following" messages stopped, but I'm getting "Hi! Please confirm by replying with your name" over and over instead. I even replied with STOP and it won't stop.
If I didn't have unlimited messaging I'd be extremely pissed right now. -

I can't set up my phone with Twitter; is my phone supported? Last reply on May 13, 2008 17:23.
If your phone isn't working with Twitter, the first step is making sure it's verified.
You generate your verification code when you add your phone to your settings page. If you refresh the page and the code is still there after sending it to Twitter, your phone is not verified. If verification is not successful, make sure your phone is compatible with Twitter. A simple test before contacting your provider is sending HELP to Twitter to see if you get a reply. If you do, your phone works!
For US, Canadian, and Indian residents: if you don't receive a reply from the HELP command, check with your provider to make sure that texting to short codes, particularly 40404, 21212, and/or 5566511, is enabled.
(Hint: send something like "weather, san francisco" to Google's short code, 46645, to see if your phone works with other short codes.)
Some phone companies don't support messaging to short codes. The following carriers are not supporting messaging to Twitter's short codes:
-Cellular One
-Metro PCS
-Cincinnati Bell
-Cricket
If you contact a provider that does not support Twitter that you don't see listed here, contact support@twitter.com and we'll trade you a t shirt for the heads up.
For international residents: if you don't receive a reply from the HELP command, check with your provider to make sure that you can send SMS messages to +44 762 4801423. If you do receive a reply from HELP but your phone is still not verified, there is most likely an error in the format of the phone number (such as a missing country code, extra zero, etc.) Try removing your number and re-adding to generate a new code, and send again.
If you've tried everything above and still can't verify your phone, send your Twitter username and associated email address with the following information to Twitter Support for investigation:
1. Country, city:
2. Mobile Number:
3. Mobile Provider/Carrier:
4. Date/Timestamp of last attempted message sent to Twitter (if you don't have one, send HELP and use the info from the latest message.)
For those who cannot use Twitter via SMS, you can use your mobile web browser to access m.twitter.com. Alternatively, try signing up for email updates with Twittermail.com, or use one of the many 3rd party applications listed here:

Twitter SMS seriously broken. Last reply on May 25, 2008 15:58.
After weeks of trying to get my wife to sign up for twitter she finally does. Thanks twitter for screwing it up so completely.
My wife signed up for twitter on the web as tjaybee. When trying to set up SMS, Twitter created a new account. Subsequent attempts created new accounts also. She can't log into any of these newly created accounts or delete them. The accounts that need to be deleted are: hiitstjaybee and tjaybee1. Then we need to attach her cellphone to her twitter account. Somehow. -

Why can't I add my phone? I text back the verification code, then nothing. I've read the FAQ, and I don't understand why I can't have my account with my phone #. -

Receiving / Paying for invisible tweets during Sleep hours. Last reply on June 30, 2008 19:23.
I have my "sleep" under "Notices" turned on from 8:00pm to 8:00am. I don't get tweets to my phone during this time, which is great. However looking at my AT&T bill and it shows
02/26 07:47 AM Twitter Text/IM Messaging Received 1Msg
02/26 07:45 AM Twitter Text/IM Messaging Received 1Msg
02/26 06:47 AM Twitter Text/IM Messaging Received 1Msg
Therefore I'm now over in my SMS allowance, and have to pay for SMS msgs I don't see / receive! What's going on?

I can't validate my SMS phone number!
I followed all instructions correctly... that is selecting my number adding the "+xx prefix", send the code to the correct twitter (international) number... but I tried tons of times and I still can't validate my number. In the "Devices" tab it continue saying what code i have to send and it behaves like it didn't get my sms.
I tried to send international sms previously and it always worked. Now, I am from italy and I know there have been troubles: twitter stopped sending SMS to italy. In fact the site says just this, but also it says I still should be able to update!
I am using a "Wind" phone account. I know for sure that people with a "Vodafone" account have validated without problems. Could it be related to my phone company? tnx! -

Poor Examples. Please fix/explain
Maybe it's a lack of sleep. but
"Please precede your number with a "+" and your country code (leaving off the leading 0 of your number if applicable). Examples: +447781488126 or +12125551212."
doesn't make since to me. A good example might be "If your in America and your phone number was 123-4567 it would be _____. As it is the example is just random numbers with "+" in front of it. -

can't verify my sprint phone Last reply on May 24, 2008 04:40.
I've tried verifying my phone over and over, but nothing works. I checked the FAQ and I don't think those frequent problems are affecting me. Could it be a Sprint problem with the short code? -

UK Twitter text costs Last reply on June 27, 2008 01:10.
The Twitter number used for the UK isn't considered a UK number by any major UK mobile phone network, and so costs UK users vastly more than normal text messages, despite having a +447 prefix.
My understanding is that the number used is from the Manx Telecom range. The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, although we do share a head of state and a telecoms numbering range.
If Twitter is going to continue to use an Isle of Man number for text updates, it really needs to add a big fat warning somewhere to UK users will be charged rather a lot of money for text messages and they won't be included in normal text bundles. -

cannot verify my mobile number!
when I first registered to twitter, I activated my old phone number without problems. but I changed it some time ago, and now I get no sms reply and nothing changes on the website. I now use a relatively new mobile provider (VIP), so is that the reason?
