with a protected profile can i allow someone to follow me but not have to follow them?

It doesn't work anymore. I used to be able to let someone to follow me without me following them. Now it seems that Follower must be also the followee as well. If I delete them on my "Following" list, they'll also get deleted from my "Followers" list. OK i'm getting a heading saying the Follow word. Can you please help?

The system keeps on telling me I have a new follower request, but when I click it no name appears. How do I clear this? I'm not getting an error page. I'm guessing the account that requested to floow me no longer exists. No matter how many times I click on the link, the request never disappears.

I never know when someone wants to follow me until I pull up Twitter on the web (which isn't a lot these days since I use other apps to post to Twitter). I get notifications when people begin following me, who I am following, but I don't get those requests and suddenly there will be 4-6 requests I don't know about.

I have a protected account. Someone sent me a follower request. I blocked this user and also denied their request. This was yesterday.

Today, I sit down and view Twitter, and somehow the blocked user has sent me a new, second follower request. I have confirmed they are currently blocked because the link at the bottom of their page says "unblock." Why can a previously blocked user send me a new follower request?

My main page says I have 1 follower request, after checking the follower request page, I realize I don't. How do I get rid of that?

All of my followers disappeared when I changed my status to private... i re added them and then was also following all of them. When i deleted the people i didnt want to follow, it also deleted my followers and now my followers are gone! : (

I have protected updates on. Why must I follow those who I allow to follow me? If I accept a new follower request, I am automatically following that person, but I don't want to.

What does the option "Protect my updates" at the bottom of the page at http://twitter.com/account/settings actually mean?
If I check the check box next to that option, does it mean that other Twitter users cannot follow me without my approval?

First let me state that I have a protected account. Given the uptick of mass followers (borderline link spammers IMHO), I've been blocking a lot of users recently. When you're following 58K people, I'm not interested in being one of them. :-)

I notice however that blocking a user leaves their follower request active. If I failed to open the twitter user's updates page in a new window, it's a whole lot of clicking involved. Here's the process:

1. Go to friend requests page
2. Click on twitter users to see who they are and/or if I'm interested in following them back (because currently, that's required
3. Find out that in fact, I'm definitely NOT now nor ever. Hence, I click Block this user
4. Page refreshes to my own home page
5. Click on friend requests again
6. See still active request from the user and click deny

Again, LOTS of clicks. What I'd like to see is a workflow like the following:

1. Go to friend requests page
2. Click on twitter users to see who they are and/or if I'm interested in following them back (because currently, that's required
3. Find out that in fact, I'm definitely NOT now nor ever. Hence, I click Block this user
4. Page refreshes, still on that user's page (for contextual consistency) and shows me a message that says "You have blocked this users and denied their request. Would you like to see __your other friend requests__"? (With the underscored linked back to my friend's request page). I click back to my friend request

Other than the fewer number of steps, this also provides contextual consistency that is currently lacking where when I block a user, I'm transported back to my home page which is neither my origin nor current destination.

This sort of streamlined process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Twitter team!

When I changed from private to public, I lost 95 people who had asked to follow me and were pending approval. Shouldn't these people have been auto-added when I made it public? Instead they disappeared entirely!

If I don't want to be part of the public stream, I can protect my updates and just let selected friends see them. But how do I identify which friends I want to be able to see my updates? For instance, do the "friends" have to have Twitter accounts themselves? Or can I just allow anyone access to my page?

i have been getting mobile status updates from a couple people who's updates are protected. so i am obviously following them. but when i go to the site to change the notification thing, it says i need to request to follow... but, but, i already do! i dont want to globally turn off mobile updates.
