Hello!
During a deploy today one of our caching services was invalidated and restarted, forcing it to build anew. Given the millions of updates we see this can take quite a bit of time. All services have been affected.
We have the entire team working to rebuild the caches and bring the web service back up. Thank you for your continued patience and we'll keep everyone updated on our blog.

Inappropriate? The API is unreliable all the time too. It delays messages up to 10 minutes and issues HTTP 406 and 502 replies spuriously.
This better be some good maintenance they're doing.
I’m wishing for some change

Inappropriate?Dear Twitter: Make everybody start over with 0 followers, except for me and @WiredPig of course. ...Okay, except for the rest of my Twitterbuds too then (excluding the 20K plus club) but with an exemption for @LeoLaporte. Oh, and I especially hate everyone with 2,500 to 3,500 followers. They're obnoxious peeps.
I’m still drinking...

W00t! Thats my brutha, save me. Where do I wire the funds to again? -
Inappropriate?Everyone at the Community 2.0 conference now has twitter withdrawal, and doesn't know what anyone is doing. Help!
I’m sad
-
I have one word - Brightkite. Its the Twitter withdraw pill that eases the pain and lets you still connect ;) -
Inappropriate?Let me take this opportunity to use tragedy for my benefit and invite you all to my home away from home at http://brightkite.com/people/acompute...
It's a great substitute for times like this when Twitter is down. Never out of touch.
I’m happy as a Twitterbird.
-
Inappropriate?Couldn't resist starring a Brightkite mention. It isn't Twitter, but it feels a lot like home, since Twitter spawned much of its community.

I’m amused

Inappropriate?I am now getting old Twitter updates to my cell phone. That must mean something. What... I don't know. Perhaps my phone is living in the past?
I’m hopeful that I don't get kicked off Twitter by Goldfoot for being a wise ass.

Inappropriate? Why, as part of this 'rebuild,' do I need to get the entire past day's SMS messages all over again? As soon as I started seeing the reruns I sent the 'off' command, yet these messages keep coming. You need to be able to unplug the SMS server during these 'rebuilds' if this happens again.
I’m frustrated
-
hawaii- That's odd. SMS is queued by your carrier. This has the effect that if we're down, the transmission is retried until we're back up. So, you may be seeing some messages that look old (but are actually not). -
It may be my carrier, but they were old messages. In fact, they were Tweets I'd received earlier in the day when everything was working fine. And I definitely got dozens of them after saying 'off', all the way up to the last SMS I got before Twitter went down. -
Inappropriate?I like twitter a lot, just wish it had better uptime. Being in the industry though I totally understand the growing pains a startup goes through getting things off the ground, look at Blackberry's occasional outages. Even though it's frustrating when the service goes down I just can't bring myself to complain about a FREE Service! Looks like it's back up now, thanks guys!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Hmm, @Jack speaks. Will he ever follow me? I doubt it. But I do appreciate Twitter and feel his pain. Time to tell my BrightKite friends the news. http://brightkite.com/people/acompute...
I’m going to drink "that" to @Jack.

Inappropriate?Great time to experiment with tracking.
Set up several tracking terms a day or so ago.
Problem being I wanted to turn one of them off, but get no reaction to my untrack (term), untrack all, or track off.
Finally got the site to work and was able to disable mobile notification. *sigh* hope they get this sorted out soon
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I would really like a Brightkite invitation, I'm rt_muller in twitter and at hotmail
I’m indifferent
-
FYI: Brightkite also has a section on Get Satisfaction. Bet they'd give you an invite: http://getsatisfaction.com/brightkite -
Inappropriate?if the system is resending sms's then that would be a pain for those of us that are only allowed 250 sms's a week
I’m too busy working
-
Inappropriate?I'll say this again. Yahoo needs to buy Twitter. Like now and end these scalability issues.
I’m disappointed but excited
-
Careful what you wish for! I'd hate to see Twitter -- brought to you by Microsoft. -
Inappropriate? There's also a blogpost on the Twitter blog: What Happened Today
-
Inappropriate? Also, in case it hasn't been said before, you can always check http://istwitterdown.com/. I checked it today when it went down, and it said yes!
I’m glad it's back up
-
Inappropriate?First! Okay seriously... I think this is just about over. Kitty go night-night now.
I’m sleepy.
