"This service is not enabled" message, even though it *is* enabled.
I'm in India. I can post onto Twitter by sending an SMS to 5566511, and that part works fine. However, immediately after I send the sms, I get a reply from 55665 (not 5566511, please note) saying "This service is not enabled yet".
It gets really irritating because it happens every time I post, and its putting me off using Twitter from my phone, which is a shame because I think its most fun through the phone.
Could you please look into this? My service provider is Vodafone, if that helps. Thanks.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem, but I'm in the US, have service with T-Mobile, and the number I send the confirmation to (and receive the reply from) is 40404. How can it send a message to me in reply to my confirmation if the service is unavailable to me?
I’m furious.

Inappropriate?same problem. i'm on a t-mobile pay as you go and text messaging is part of the service plan. however, once i message the code i get the same "service not supported" hooplah. all i want to do is update my twitter by sending text messages, and i have text messaging. i don't even want to receive any text message updates.
what is it about the twitter updates that suddenly makes sending a simple text message into something *more* than sending a text message, turning it a "service"?

Inappropriate?UPDATE: in case anyone has the same specific problem as i do, i found the info below. twitter's docs say they use short codes to makes things simpler, which is great. but if not all carriers support short codes in all situations (such as not for prepaid phones, except virgin) why isn't there a regular, non-short-code number to fall back on? instead of saying certain phones aren't supported, it would be a lot more convenient if they simply had a fall back number that wasn't a short code. i doubt that having to enter 11 numbers at setup instead of 5 would be a real deal breaker for anyone.
mysterious part for me is that i was able to successfully send the message to 40404. At least it said so.

Verification Troubleshooting
If your phone is prepaid, you may not be able to use Twitter because we operate using a short code. Most prepaid services, with the exception of Virgin Mobile, do not support SMS to short codes. If you're not prepaid and you still can't verify your phone, it might be for one of these reasons:
* your phone number is incorrect in the settings page
* your provider doesn't support SMS to short codes or SMS-only numbers like our longcode, +44 762 4801423
* your provider doesn't support SMS to Twitter in particular
* you haven't enabled SMS to short codes or SMS-only numbers like +44 762 4801423
If you can't verify your phone, try some tests to see where the problem originates.
* Make sure your phone number is correct in your settings page, and includes the country code. One missing digit will make all the difference.
* If you're using a shortcode, test your phone's ability to message to short codes in general by sending a message to the Google shortcode, 46645. (GOOGL) Send something like "weather, san francisco." If you get a reply, you know your phone is able to receive messages from short codes.
* Test your phone with Twitter specifically by sending a command to see if you get a reply. Try using the GET command to see if it return the latest user name. Try "get biz" to see if you get Biz's last update.
* Contact your provider. Some providers require you to turn on SMS to short codes or SMS-specific number. It's best to give your provider the number to which you're sending SMS (40404, 21212, +44 762 4801423) in order to ensure you have all of the right permissions. If you're still having problems, please send us the following information:
1. Twitter user name and email address
2. phone number you're trying to add
3. mobile service provider
