About half of the tweets from people I am following are not reaching my cell phone.
When I check the website, I see that my cell phone has not received 1/3 to 1/2 of the tweets sent by friends whom I am following. This is a new development in the past few days and I cannot fiugure out what has happened.
This is especially concerning, since my husband is traveling and has been using twitter to keep me & other family easily/readily apprised of his status. Using twitter was to be a way for him to send updates rapidly to a group.
Just because I know you will ask:
1. Yes, I have these friends & my husband (mbmyer) set to device updates.
2. No, I do not have "down times" set for my phone or tweeting.
3. For any given person, I am missing 1/3 to 1/2 of his/her tweets; i _do_ however, receive some tweets from everyone whom I am following.
4. I am supposed to be receiving @ replies to everyone.
5. No, my cell phone inbox is not full.
6. My carrier is Alltel (USA)
In a related frustration, I frequently receive tweets that consist only of the individual's name, time of receipt -- nothing else. No text at all. What's up?
This is quite frustrating -- have you any suggestions?
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate?Hello. There's another thread in this forum where customers of Alltel and US Cellular say that @replies arrive blank on their phones.
So the blank tweets are not a problem with your account or your phone, but rather is a problem with the way the phone company is interpreting the characters.
There was a similar problem with Verizon a while back but they were thankfully able to resolve it after months of effort.
Having said all that, is there a chance that the tweets that you are missing are @replies from your friends that don't arrive correctly on your phone due to the aforementioned problem? -
I wish that is were just the @ replies. I'm not receiving original messages, either. I tried deleting my phone and re-entering it -- that only lead to yet another account being created for me. I can see three tweets on my webpage (mlmyer1) and not one of them has reached my phone today. All of these are original tweets, none are @ or D replies.
Please help! -
Inappropriate?Hi. Have you been able to resolve the issue of the second account being created? Just in case it's still an issue, there's another thread in this forum that explains why that happens and what remedies are available.
As to the missing tweets... there's a Twitter FAQ page that may shed some light on the situation.
An excerpt from the FAQ:"When we send an SMS message to your phone, we receive a verification message back from your service provider confirming that the message was received. If, for whatever reason, we don't receive a reply from your phone's network confirming that your phone (or your phone's network) is receiving our SMS messages, we turn off notifications automatically".
So one possibility that comes to mind is that Twitter is intermittently shutting off sms delivery because it thinks the messages are not being delivered. Then, when you send a tweet of your own, it realizes that your phone is now active and starts sending again.
That's probably not very helpful as an answer, though, since it doesn't actually solve your problem. But it may explain it. -
I'm revealing my ignorance here, but is an SMS the same as a text message?
Just as a clarification on your answer, I'm getting intermittent messages throughout the day, with intermittent skips. I don't send many tweets, so I don't think it's my sending of a tweet that re-activates my service. I'll read the FAQ page, though.
As far as the 2nd account being created, I haven't yet tried the "delete-the-account-and-start-over suggestion yet, because I didn't want to risk losing my husband's messages on the web. I've missed three of them on m y phone today, and didn't want to risk losing all contact. -
Inappropriate?Hello. Yes, sms is the same as text message. 8-)
When you login to your 'real' account (is it mlmyer or mlmyer1 ?) and you go to http://twitter.com/devices, do you see your mobile number listed as verified?
If yes, then the duplicate account problem most likely does not apply to you anymore (meaning your phone number is no longer linked to that duplicate account and instead has been correctly linked to your real account).
But if your phone is still listed as unverified in your real account, and you're receiving sms messages from Twitter, then it means you do need to use the account completion form that is linked to in the thread re: duplicate accounts to unlink your phone number from the duplicate account so you can link it to your real account.
