Account Deleted/banned with no reasoning
I went to log in and my account has been deleted. I can't view my account anymore. I am unable to reinstate the account with my email address. I am not a spammer, but a normal community member/user. I have no idea what I did. Help?

Inappropriate?@tibbon never spammed anyone and didn't follow thousands of people. I'd really like to know how this happened. So now we get to worry about our account being deleted on top of people we block having the ability to DM us? Come on Twitter!
I’m confused, annoyed
-
Inappropriate? It looks as though you accidentally deleted your own account - or Twitter thinks you did (maybe as a consequence of a Twitter outage).
What happens if you press the Restore my account! button?
You should receive an email to the email address originally associated with your account (from your screenshot, this would appear to be tibbon@gmail.com) confirming restoration or explaining your next step.
If this doesn't help, go to http://twitter.com/help/ and submit a support request. Since requests are serviced sequentially, and Twitter seems to have quite a backlog, it may take a week before your request is processed.
I’m hoping you get your account back soon.
-
Tried that. I get, "This account has been suspended due to violations of the Terms of Service. If you have questions, please contact customer support." -
Hmm... sounds as though you'll have to submit a support request via http://twitter.com/help/ to get Twitter's attention. -
Yep. Did that. Also twittered at @ev, @biz and @crystal. No luck. -
Inappropriate? This just happened to me also. HELP!!! This is a job related account, and I can't in even to find out what happened. I teach classes on Twitter, several, present on it at conferences. I can't do the work I am doing to promote Twitter if my account is gone. I need that data back!!
I’m anxious
-
This is doubleungood. And it seems they are all kicking back watching 'Sneakers' and ignoring twitter. Trying to stay positive, but honestly its hard. -
That's good. Glad he finally checked his replies, as even @chrisbrogan tried to message him a while ago about it. At least i know this isn't just me tonight. Wonder how many others were affected? -
Inappropriate?I know - I'm thinking the same thing. I had a friend on the phone who was saying his friends had disappeared, but when I dug deeper there were still there. So far, haven't found anyone else, but it would be hard to prove, and they would have to be frequent users to have noticed this quickly.
-
Inappropriate? My account is back. No reasoning given for the glitch yet, but it seems that in total at least 3 people were banned. Figuring that there were more, but that they haven't noticed yet.
I feel slightly troubled by the response time and honestly do wish that I could pay for Twitter and expect a higher level of turnaround and reponsiveness.
At least I'm back.
I’m unsure.
-
Connie has an account now, but everything is gone except one tweet. BUMMER -
Inappropriate?OK, it looks like in addition to @tibbon and @pfanderson, other users whose accounts have been deleted include @davedelaney and @conniecrosby and @pknit
I’m anxious
-
Connie was someone I tweeted to; oddly, there are lots of results in Summize but on her page there is a total of 1 showing. Her account was wiped? ReDo from Start?! -
I am finding Summize a way to get some of the tweets back. Thank God for small favors, eh? It is also a good tool for verifying if a person was part of a community and conversations, or not. -
Inappropriate?I'm @davedelaney on Twitter. This happened to me too. I'm very disappointed right now. I love Twitter, but this is ridiculous.
I blogged about my experience here: http://urlzen.com/p8
I hope to hear some good news soon.
I’m frustrated
-
Dave, you too got screwed? Can we promote our Identi.ca IDs here? Though I'm sure Twitter is 'looking in to it,' I see no reason not to begin a migration to a competitor. Whey don't we organize a 'Week Without Twitter' campaign - all agree to move to one site or another, and TELL ALL OUR FRIENDS. Seriously. -
Inappropriate?I believe my friend @skalik was also affected, but she doesn't seem to be online tonight to notice.
I blogged twice. Once about the problem: http://whatisnoise.com/2008/08/twitte...
Once about the resolution: http://whatisnoise.com/2008/08/twitte...
Status.twitter.com still has no updates about this, and no one has responded here yet. I mean they fixed mine, but still... not cool? Twitter please communicate with us here eh?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yeah - I said that in my blogpost. I mean, hey - most of the folk banned are real strong Twitter evangelists. I teach and present and blog about Twitter. Then they ban us, say we've either breached the contract or "accidentally" deleted our own accounts, don't answer questions, don't post a status updated, don't update the blog ... This is such a breach of trust. I have an upcoming meeting in which I am talking with some bigwigs about tools for engaging with their community via social media. Twitter *was* going to be my number one tool. Now, I don't feel safe making that recommendation.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?@tibbon:
Glad to see you're back, and that it "only" took 5 hours (rather than days...).
As I write this, you have 616 followers, but are folllowing only @meggiepoo (1 person).
Approximately how many people were you following originally? Maybe the number will gradually get back to normal as "your" part of the cache warms up? Something similar happened to me a week ago, once the missing follower/following problem was resolved.
@Twitter:
This problem is serious enough to merit your feedback at http://status.twitter.com
I’m relieved and worried in equal measures.
-
Inappropriate? My account www.twitter.com/narain is also deleted for no reasons. In fact, i dont tweet in English too. I am yet to get my account back.
-
Hi, Narain! I follow you - excellent job reporting out about the bombing in Bangladore. -
I should say I used to follow you. Now, since both of us have had accounts deleted ... Hey, are you on Plurk? -
Inappropriate?I just started with twitter (@marjanpanic), and after 2 days my account got deleted with no explanation!
I tried to restore it - but got a message saying that I was spaming???
I tried to submit support issue, but no answers and no explanation!
Can anyone help me:
-give me support email
-give me submit issue location
-guide me to problem solution
I don't want to use twitter for spamming, as me myself hate spam!
So, please help!
I’m dissapointed and very very sad!
-
I did a quick scan of your Twitter ID using Twitter search and I'm not surprised that you got banned. For future reference, repeatedly tweeting the URL of your web site is considered spam. http://search.twitter.com/search?q=ma... -
You hate spam?? That's all you did with your account!!! Plus you had a lot of followers complaining and blocking you (as you can see from the search that @mdoeff included above)!
Seriously, it takes a lot of courage to come here complaining and saying that you're sad when what you've done on Twitter is beyond sad: it's SPAM! -
Inappropriate?Someone just reported that @skalik's account is also missing. @conniecrosby is also missing, and hers is really weird. Her archive shows up in search, but she actually has a page with one tweet on it and no avatar or background or friends etc.
I’m frustrated
-
The weird tweet about "sister Lolita" was me. I was sending from my cell phone. Twitter came back and asked for my name, I texted "Conniecrosby' and then sent the tweet again. Looks like it created a new account on the same name. I didn't realize my original account was gone! -
Inappropriate?Active community discussions about this going on via plurk. Blogosphere picking it up also.
-
Inappropriate?Confirmation that @skalik's account was also deleted: http://twitter.com/unbanskalik/status...
I’m getting pretty angry.
-
Inappropriate?Went online to find my account gone, too. Gak! I was tweeting from my cell phone last night and seem to have reinstated the account again under my name with one tweet. I tried to restore account option, but it says there is nothing there.
I've been a Twitter customer for 1 1/2 years, was following 1400+ people and had 1500+ followers.
I am concerned as to why it was deleted. I definitely didn't accidentally delete it -- I was not online, did not send any commands via cell phone that might have done this by accident.
Help?
I’m angry
-
Thank God. We noticed your account disappeared, and were worried about you. Glad you came online to join the fight. Discussion active at Plurk and in blogosphere. -
I just messaged @ev @biz @jack that I'd do some external social media consulting for them to help show them how to respond better to customer issues and have a better public image. Seems that this bug has bitten definitely the wrong people, and twitter is just sitting on their hands. -
Thanks! I was off-line for 18 hours and only just noticed this morning. Have to head off-line now for a good part of the day. Thanks for staying on top of this!! -
I have now heard directly from Crystal at Twitter, and am being patient. I appreciate the quick response.
Cheers,
Connie -
Inappropriate?I just blogged about how twitter SHOULD have handled this: http://whatisnoise.com/2008/08/how-no...
Maybe they want to hire me as a social media consultant?
I’m unsure
-
Gosh I hope so. They need SOMEONE to really do all the things you just described in that post. Good job! -
Inappropriate?I am on FriendFeed as conniecrosby if anyone wants to talk with me there.
I’m sad for my Twitter friends
-
GOod discussion about this going on there also. :) -
Inappropriate?Tibbon, I work as a customer care rep in telecommunications. I will totally join you in helping Twitter figure out their customer care. I'm rather aggravated by the fact I've received no response from Jack, Biz or Twitter about PFAnderson & DaveDelaney's deletion.
I’m extremely displeased by lack of response & worried for my Tweeters.
-
Thank you for your help and concern, Kristen. :) -
Inappropriate?I'm tracking the penetration of this discussion across the social media. Screenshots at http://www.flickr.com/photos/rosefire... Plan to blog selections after my son's drum lesson. See you later, folks!
I’m exhausted and depressed
-
So far included plurk, twitter, friendfeed, delicious, blogs. If you see anything I've missed, let me know, please. Friendfeed or plurk for now. -
Also, Digg, google alerts (might be a lot of false hits), facebook (might be hard to search), etc -
Inappropriate? This happened to me too! No response yet... I'm just a normal Twitter user! What happened?

I'm pretty pissed off about this..
I’m frustrated and mad
-
Inappropriate?Sorry to hear that so many folks are having trouble here. I don't know the underlying problem just yet but we're getting to the bottom of it.
-
Thank You! Can you put this on the status.twitter.com blog and keep up in the loop. kthxbai. -
Good to see you here at last, Jason :) -
Oh, SO ditto! Thank you for joining the conversation! -
Thanks so much for checking into it! -
Inappropriate? Thanks for joining Jason. I'd love to see an update very soon.
-
Inappropriate?Here's another deleted account - @symtym - he's a doctor and medical researcher!!
I’m getting stressed
-
Inappropriate? We've found that around seven accounts were accidentally suspended. They were mistakenly identified as spam; we are working to restore these accounts now.
While we have automated tools to identify spam, human review is still required before suspending accounts. Despite those safeguards, false positives can still occur and that's what happened in this case.
I'm really sorry to those users who were affected by this mistake. We're going to work a lot harder to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. -
Thanks for getting involved in the conversation, Jason. Can you give us any guidelines on what the human reviewers look for before suspending accounts? It might help others of us who are worried about something similar happening.
For example, I know a couple of these people whose accounts were suspended, and I can't imagine what they did that would be perceived as spam and cause a human reviewer to go ahead and suspend them.
Like @pfanderson, I use Twitter as a business tool and teach it in workshops and seminars. I also do live demos for clients and classes. So if this happened to me, it would not only reflect poorly on me but on the Twitter service. Thanks again for responding here. -
These accounts shouldn't have been removed; it's not really a case of the users having done something wrong. It was just our error.
We're continuing to work on the restoration - it may take a little bit of time but it's being actively worked on. -
Thanks for the update, Jason. -
Thanks for the update Jason.
There's an interview in the Tennessean being published THIS Monday with me about Twitter. I have nothing but good things to say about your service, but am concerned that my account will not be active in time for the story.
This means that readers interested will not be able to contact me.
Please let me know.
On a side note, here's a few things you may want to know about me and my love for Twitter:
- Made my business cards Twitter themed
- Created a video to celebrate my 8,000th tweet
- Co-host a podcast based solely on Twitter tweets called The Nothing Show
- Created a funny short video
- Did a presentation on branding with Twitter at PodCamp Toronto and PodCamp Nashville
- I have over 1,500 followers
- I follow over 900 people
- I have blogged extensively about Twitter
Thanks for your help.
Dave -
This is excellent news. I do think it would be helpful for Twitter users to also have some idea what to do to protect our accounts, and how better to get assistance in case of problems occurring. Many thanks! -
Like @davedelaney, I have been a strong Twitter evangelist and have upcoming obligations that depend on Twitter. I haven't created the variety of resources about Twitter that Dave has, but I do teach about and with Twitter. The @pubmedbootcamp account was my teaching experiment and we were just making plans for that. I have a few slideshows about Twitter in Slideshare. Here is my first: http://www.slideshare.net/umhealthsci... -- over four thousand views, over 100 downloads, embedded in almost 20 blogs. I think I had about 1500 followed and about 1300 followers. I had my 5,000th tweet shortly before this nightmare began. I've been working to develop a series of Twitterphiliac slideshows and was in preparations for them. This has all really taken the heart out of that project. Meanwhile, we are in the process of planning an experimental social medial class for healthcare students, and I've been asked to consult with our administration about using social media for community outreach. These activities are going on NOW, with meetings in the early part of next week and following. Twitter had been planned to be an integral part of both activities, but I now have grave misgivings about making that kind of recommendation. Would be really going out on a limb. -
Jason - it seems like Twitter is attempting to address spam in a manner that is either ineffective or has a high level of false positives, even with human interaction. Spam is a difficult problem, but when you start affecting your users on a regular basis, you are losing the battle. Either the tools aren't working or the humans aren't doing their job.
While I don't exactly know what steps Twitter is taking, I urge you to read a couple posts I've put together on this in the past. I've had experience with this type of situation and they may help prod the devs with some other ideas as to how to help prevent spam.
http://dcortesi.com/2008/04/16/addressing-twitter-spam-through-statistical-analysis/
http://dcortesi.com/2008/04/27/twitter-reputation-statistics/ -
Thanks Jason. I also heard directly from Twitter. This is what I guessed had happened. I appreciate that you are working to fight all the spam, and am being patient. I trust you will be able to reinstate me soon. In the meanwhile I am enjoying the fine holiday weekend we're having here in Toronto. :-)
Cheers,
Connie -
can we have a status report please Jason? -
Jason you didn't really answer Connie's question. Knowing the guidelines in which the human review is utilized would make more of us feel comfortable. I'm not going to be a pest here, but it is upsetting to imagine losing an account completely.
I can't imagine how everyone who's been deleted feels. :( -
Jason, I think my account is okay now. The ones I was getting permission requests for really was a private account (one I forgot about), and I have now deleted it. Thanks for looking into it for me. -
Inappropriate?I can imagine Jason doesn't want to reveal the things that point towards a "spam" stamp being put on an account. Spammers could use that to their advantages to work around the Twitter security measures.
-
Inappropriate?Here's another one - @abrudtkul - http://www.plurk.com/p/22f1v
I’m hoping they find all of them - suspect there are many more
-
-
Inappropriate?Almost 24 hours now with no tweets. My home page on twitter shows I'm following 0, have the same number of followers I had prior to the interruption, can't post, and when I select my profile it doesn't exist. None of the services I use that rely on the Twitter API are working for my account. 3 messages to twitter, no answer so far. Glad it isn't just me experiencing this latest status twitticus episode.
I’m frustrated
-
I am amazed the percentage of people banned who are people I follow -
Sort defies statistics and coincidence that you would know anyone that was banned. How long have you been affected? -
I lost access late afternoon yesterday. Let's see, of the affected group, I followed you, @conniecrosby, @davedelany, @narain, @pknit (which was a false alarm) and @skalik. I am not 100% certain about @skalik, but I know we had friends in common if we didn't follow each other. I did not (yet) follow @tibbon @marjarpanic @abrudtkuhl. I know that for @tibbon and @abrudtkuhl we have friends in common. I have NO idea how a newbie like MarJar got pulled into this mess! It does seem rather clustered, doesn't it? I guess we'll find out Monday morning when folks come back to work about others. Wondering if this effected any of the folks in Japan or other countries with large Twitter user populations. -
Seems more than just 7. Perhaps Twitter truncated the digits after 7. What are the chances we would be able to identify at least 7? This is probably widespread and 7 was when it reached a threshold for them to do something. What a crazy service. I agree with the comment that I would be willing to pay for reliability -- at this point they're looking like Comcast! -
Oops! Just realized I did follow @abrudtkuhl - Had just added him last week. He (and me, you, @davedelaney @conniecrosby are back with accounts, no archive, and only new tweets. @Narain is back with full account - w00t! -
@skalik and I are friends, and follow each other. I was also following @conniecrosby I know. The others, I'm unsure about. -
Inappropriate?still no word... account still deleted... everyone should join identi.ca
http://identi.ca/abrudtkuhl/
I’m switching
-
Hey, @abrudtkuhl, your account is back! Sort of, incompletely. -
Inappropriate?Hiya, @Goldman and any other listening Twitter higher up. Thank you, thank you for getting this fixed. Went pretty fast once Goldman connected with the question.
I am having a problem with the restored account and wanted to ask about it. Most of the people I follow do not seem to be showing up in my stream (Recent tab). When I unfollow and refollow they seem to show up. Some show up anyway, and I am not sure why. I am really having struggles with friends with locked accounts. They are having to first unfollow me, refollow me, then I repeat the process in reverse. (Check interchanges between me and @dmcordell). That worked with two private accounts.
I follow about 1500 people. Yes, there are a bunch I want to get rid of, but TwitterKarma crashes on my account, so I have not been able to find and delete the unproductive accounts. There are also a substantial number of accounts I followed for work purposes that I don't need anymore. However, going through and refollowing 1500 people is really painful. @DaveDelaney and @tibbon said they were going through the same thing (and suggested the solutions I have used). Is there anyway you can fix it so that this isn't necessary? So that my followers are there, AND show up in my timeline?
Many thanks!
I’m undecided
-
Hello? Anyone here? -
Inappropriate?it gets worse. twitter always deletes first and asks questions later. they might say it is a mistake, but the truth is what they are doing is unethical. If anyone out there in the world decides they don't like you, twitter will delete your account. I never broke any terms and they deleted many of my accounts. Twitter is about to die... shame on them for ruining so many people lives who stake their reputations online. The basic problem is that twitter changes their terms arbitrarily leaving people in the lurch. the follow/follower ratio is only one detail in a series of grievances for me or my friends. What twitter has done It is a systematic problem of the administration behind the service. They punish arbitrarily and then try and fit their accusation or excuse to fit their punishment. for more information on my situation please see http://simonstudiotheatre.blogspot.co... I always keep a twitter account to communicate with those that use the service, but I make sure I make a new one ever few days because twitter deletes them regularly. If you are not Alist, twitter does not care about you. more and more people will feel more comfortable elsewhere. I am on friendfeed as http://friendfeed.com/NoahDavidSimon and can not be reached on twitter
I’m angry
-
Hi, Noah - what accounts were deleted? I do agree that there should be a formal warning process first. This would allow people to respond, backup, or modify/justify "questionable" practices before losing data and functionality. It looks like it will take weeks or months for me to restore full functionality of my account. I commented earlier on the reduction in my timeline stream, and have not gotten a reply to that. Going to ask the other victims if they know of a better solution. -
Inappropriate?@pfanderson - I think your problem may now be fixed. It was probably due to mistaken caching when your account was restored. I've checked the other accounts restored here and cleared the caches as well. This will have the effects of clearing your Recent tab. But when it repopulates it will be with content from all of the people you follow.
I know of a remaining issue with Connie's account - if there are others please let me know. -
Thank you, Jason! But it isn't quite right yet.
The Recent tab does seem to be more populous, which is good. However, the people with private streams who I follow and who follow me are not showing up. Unfortunately, to see them is requiring work on their part, which simply broadens the impact of the problem by making more work for them. What seems to be working for most of them is if they unfollow and refollow me, then I send a request to them to be added.
Thank you again for checking into all these messy sequelae. Much appreciated. :) -
Jason? I am unable to reply to DMs. :( -
Hmm. That's harder to explain and definitely frustrating. If you'll leave an example of the scenarios you're talking about (the usernames involved) we can take a closer look. You can also send it to support@twitter.com if you don't want to post here. -
Hmm. That's harder to explain and definitely frustrating. If you'll leave an example of the scenarios you're talking about (the usernames involved) we can take a closer look. You can also send it to support@twitter.com if you don't want to post here. -
Just stumbled on this - perhaps related to this weekend's problem? I don't see any resolution posted for these folk.
http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to... -
I expect mine might be more difficult since I accidentally reinstated the account while accessing Twitter via my cell phone. Please contact me by email if I can answer any questions. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi, again, Jason - and thank you for your quick reply. I've been digging through looking for specific examples. We have been able to get this problem fixed with some people, like @dmcordell who unlocked her account so we could connect again.
Here is someone who tried to unfollow and refollow me and it has not worked:
<http://flickr.com/photos/rosefirerisi...>
This is what happens when I try to follow her back:
<http://flickr.com/photos/rosefirerisi...>
Here is a friend whose DMs I can see, but cannot see her tweets:
<http://flickr.com/photos/rosefirerisi...>
This is what happens when I try to follow her back:
<http://flickr.com/photos/rosefirerisi...>
NOTE: I cannot reply to her DMs with my own DM.
Now, with less visual evidence. :) More folks who have unfollowed and refollowed me, but whom I still cannot see their tweets and get the same screen (please request to follow, you already follow). They have sent me replies (@pfanderson) that I cannot view.
tjshay
iteachcomputers
If screenshots help, I can provide.
On the other hand, there are friends with protected streams that I *can* see, without having to do any funky corrections:
swbuehler
ljharris
philgomes
These are just examples of types of problems. I expect there are more folk in each category.
I’m hopeful
-
I figured it was ok to give their ids, since their streams ARE private, and folks could find them just as easily by rooting through my "following". -
Thanks for the additional information. This will make it easier for us to diagnose the problem. It may take a little time to track down the underlying issue; we're working to get it cleaned up. -
Thanks for letting me know! A tricky business. -
I've also lost access to @theberrygirl -
Inappropriate?Still missing lots of tweets. Still no avatars showing up on the home page under "People." Some of the tweets show up on Twhirl but not all and not all the time.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for reinstating my account! For the record, I find it odd that no one emailed me to let me know it was back. I just checked and it is all there. Not sure when it was reinstated.
Thank you for getting me back, though. I would love to give feedback on how the communication end of things can be handled better in future. I appreciate the work that must have gone into restoring the account.
Cheers!
Connie
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?I was also not told that my account was re-enabled...
I am missing over half the tweets from my network... Still not working correctly.. Am using FriendFeed to keep tabs on my Twitter community...
I’m annoyed
-
That happened with me also, Andy. Jason flushed the cache for my account and the really helped a lot. -
Inappropriate?still not getting many tweets delivered; out of several within the last hour only 1 has showed up in Twhirl and none on my Twitter home page; the avatars are now back on my home page
I’m annoyed
-
i still cannot access my account with any 3rd party twitter client -
Me, too. Hadn't tried, so just discovered this. I am getting API error messages, and it keeps asking me to log in, over and over again. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for all of the additional data. Most of the information about this issue ending up on this thread rather than the individual emails from our support account. I apologize to those who were waiting for email instead.
As to the cause; there is an inconsistency in the relationship data for the folks that were restored. One of our engineers is digging into this now and we're trying to figure out the best way to solve it. I'll post again when I have another update. -
Inappropriate?looks like direct tweets are not getting through to me; I get notification email from twitter about d msg, but nothing in Twhirl or Twitter
-
Inappropriate?Ok - we just made another change. Can you let me know if it improved the situation or if problems remain?
-
Consider this a warm pat on the shoulder for kicking ass and helping everyone Jason. You're awesome. I hope @ev @biz are noticing. Cheers. -
Seconding Dave! Thank you for listening and paying attention, by tweet and via this page. Meanwhile, whatever changes you made did nothing for my remaining problems. Thanks for trying, and for actively communicating expectations, timelines, and process. -
Thank you. I have now heard directly from Crystal with an update on my specific account.
My account is back but still has these issues:
(1) cannot see most others' tweets under the "recent" tab
(2) those with protected tweets I cannot see and have to request permission again and
(3) I seem to still be missing a "few" people I was following (maybe 40 or 50? I was over 1400) and a few followers (maybe 11?) although that may be people leaving when frustrated.
Thank you.
Connie -
Inappropriate?Looks like I got a lot of my following back in my stream. Will dig a little deeper to make sure...
Still cannot log into any 3rd party client -
Inappropriate?finally got followings on the home page again w/ avatars on the tweets and in aggregate on the lower right of the home page, I'm checking d msg now to see if that is fixed
I’m thankful
-
spoke too soon, Twhirl is showing some incoming tweets not present on Twitter -
if I respond to an incoming tweet in Twhirl, my response shows up in Twhirl and Twitter, but not the incoming tweet responded to -
people cannot direct message me -
symtym can you provide some examples of folks who are either not in your stream or to whom you cannot send DMs. We'll investigate further. -
Hi, Jason, People with protected streams can DM me, but cannot @ me. I cannot reply to the DMs. Sort of backwards from @symtym's problem. -
Ok - with examples of the usernames involved, we can probably get to the bottom of it. -
the one's I've found, still not seeing @scanman, @doctoranonymous, @gruntdoc @GrantGriffiths -
Inappropriate?Jason, there is one more thing I just am not getting. When I was trying to restore my following/followers, I unfollowed @LouiZoot to refollow. I have not been able to refollow. His stream is not locked, but clicking follow does nothing. I even restarted the browser, and still nothing. Help?
I’m uncertain
-
Inappropriate?still not getting tweets, others are @ruraldoctoring @changu @wjjessen, only show up in Twhirl, not Twitter; using the iPhone twitter clients: Twinkle and Twitirrefic mix results between Twhirl and Twitter -- some show up, e.g., @ruraldoctoring @changu @wjjessen, and some don't, e.g., @scanman, @doctoranonymous, @gruntdoc @GrantGriffiths
I’m frustrated
-
add @lesmorgan to the list only in Twhirl, not Twitter -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the additional information - we're on it.
-
Inappropriate?@ruraldoctoring @scanman just showed up in my Twitter timeline, but can't access more than the first page; "older" is greyed out
I’m confident
-
Yes - we're making changes now. Similar to when we cleared caches before, this may result in you not being able to see the full timeline history until more updates come in. But you will be getting updates from more users, so it will fill up more quickly. -
Inappropriate?Ok - we've completed an additional round of cleanup. Please let me know if there are issues with specific accounts or usernames.
-
Hey! Looks good! :) -
Mine looks good. Thank you. -
Inappropriate?i have the same problem as others on this list (@shamsha). when i try to restore my account, twitter says they can't find it. however, i can still see my history on summize. please help since i have to present this product to some bigwigs at an oil & gas firm next week! thanks!
I’m anxious, frustrated, verging on sad....

Glad you found us here, Damani. I feared there might be more like us. Jason should be able to help get you back. -
thanks, i hope jason can work his magic for me as well! -
There is always a way to set up an account for the demo, but would be nice to have some comfort that things are going to work for those people if they ever try it. -
Inappropriate?you are right, i don't want to promote twitter if i know that it will disappear for others as well...
-
I think a number of us who experienced this are in the same situation, Damani. I am also supposed to be presenting Twitter, and am brainstorming safer ways to approach the whole microblogging concept rather than putting all your eggs in one basket. Frankly, last Friday morning, that would not have entered my mind, but it is probably a good thing. It is basically good practice in computing to have a variety of failsafes and backup plans, which in social media includes casting your net widely.
Meanwhile, stay in touch here! Jason has been really good about tracking this page and responding within a few hours usually to comments here. -
Inappropriate?Damani - we'll be working to restore your account ASAP. We've already made a lot of changes to the way we handle spam that should prevent problems like this from happening again.
-
Jason, several of us here have asked repeatedly about having this issue posted to the Twitter status page or Twitter blog as ways to help people who have experienced this find the right path to help and to understand that it isn't just them.
So far most of the people who have found this page are fairly high-end Twitter users, savvy folk who know their way around troubleshooting. I am concerned that there may be effected users who are not so savvy, may not know how to get help, may not realize the scope of the problem, or may not have even thought to check their accounts yet. It would be nice if Twitter looked out for any other as-yet-undiscovered victims of this problem and took a proactive role in communicating with their community, creating a variety of communication paths to the necessary support information. -
Inappropriate?thanks jason. i agree w/ the comment above, i'm not a heavy twitter user and sort of stumbled upon this site. i kept hoping that the twitter blog would have posted something if a lot of ppl were affected. but thanks for looking into this for us!
I’m still anxious!
-
Inappropriate?Very well put, pfanderson and Damani !
-
Inappropriate?Looks like things are restored. Thanks Jason
-
Inappropriate?Damani - your account is now restored.
Fortunately, I think we've mostly worked through this issue (at least in terms of fixing the effected accounts). GetSatisfaction proved to be a great tool for this as we were able to get all the information in one place - I think it definitely sped up the recovery time.
There could be another person like Damani out there who we didn't find out about until later. I'll still be watching here or in the support queues for any future reports or problems encountered as a result of restoration. -
I received a message "your account is being removed you may be able to view it for 24 hours" I am not a spammer, please help. thank you. -
thanks jason! i'm back! -
Inappropriate?Hi! I received the same message. I am not a spammer. I have started a discussion on GetSatisfaction, no response. I have also sent two requests via Twitter customer service...no response. I hope I can be assisted. Thank you.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate? If you received this recently, I don't believe it's related to the same thing as was affecting the other accounts. However, if you post your username I will investigate.
-
@Mark_Salinas fyi...I received the message over 14 hours ago. -
Hmm ... I'm seeing your account as active and not deleted. Maybe you can clarify what trouble you are having. -
This morning 14+ hours ago I logged on and a message stating the account had been deleted, you may be able to view for up to 24 hours or something similar... I can still currently use, does this mean that it is not going to be deleted at the 24 hour mark? -
That's very strange. I don't see anything on your account that shows it's pending deletion. I think you should be fine. If something does happen you should let me know. -
Ok, Thanks for looking into it Jason.....much appreciated! -
Inappropriate? When I log into my Twitter account it says "This account is currently suspended and is being investigated due to strange activity. If we have suspended your account mistakenly, please let us know. See Suspended Accounts for more information." I would like to know what the "strange activity" is and how can I be restored. I am not doing any of the things it says may be considered spam so what gives. Please Help. :(
I’m confused
-
Hi. I suggest you log a support ticket at http://twitter.com/help (or send an email to support AT twitter DOT com) so they can respond to you directly -
mdy - I have submitted a ticket just waiting to see what happens. -
@mikevestal, did you receive an automatically generated confirmation email from the support system with a ticket number? If yes, then it should just be a matter of time before you get a reply (usually 3 to 5 working days). -
@mdy, yes I received the auto confirmation. Thanks for your updates. -
Just saw that your account is already up and running! That's great. -
Inappropriate?I received the message yet everything still seems to be ok....thanks for checking! :)
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate? My account was suspended 2 weeks ago. Since then I've filed multiple service tickets and have yet to receive any response from twitter. At this point, I'm very disappointed with twitter's customer service.
I’m upset, sad, frustrated
-
Hi kellyk. Did you receive an automatically generated confirmation email when you logged those tickets? If yes, there's a link in those emails, which you can click to view the ticket history. You can post a follow-up inquiry on the ticket itself. -
Yes, I received the confirmation email and visited the link several times. I also posted follow-up inquires. Nothing has helped. -
At this point, I'm afraid it's just a question of time. It's my understanding that Twitter deals with the support tickets sequentially as they come in, and there is a backlog (due mostly to so much spam). They've announced that they're hiring two more people to help with this. Wish I could do more to help you. -
It'll be 3 weeks on Friday, and still no response from twitter. :( -
Inappropriate?I'm thankful that Twitter are trying to deal with the spammers.
However, I'm concerned that Twitter take so long to correct the false positives. It's very unfair on the legitimate users whose accounts are mistakenly disabled for weeks on end.
I’m not entirely happy about this.
-
Inappropriate?I agree, something needs to be done about the spam. But, waiting around for 2.5 weeks with my account locked, and no word when it'll be unlocked is a bit frustrating. It seems like they tackled the problem before they could properly handle it.
I’m frustrated
-
I can't believe it. I just tweeted @crystal, one of the people who helped me, to bring it to her attention. Crossing my fingers she (or someone) responds!! -
Hi there, can send me an @reply with the 6 digit support ticket number? Leave the letters from the access code off, I only need the numbers to see it. You can send it to @crystal and I'll see it soonest.
thanks!
c. -
Thank goodness Crystal chimed in! I tweeted @goldman about this about a week ago. Was baffled to see no response, and hoped that meant it was fixed. -- Oh, now I see - Goldman was moving. I bet he was too busy to check. Kelly, what was your original twitter account? -
I don't think Crystal realizes you can't tweet back to her. If I can help, let me know. -
You're right Connie, I did not realize that; kellyk, if you can post the 6 digit support ticket number here instead, I'll just look it up that way. Once I see one, I will see all tickets sent from your email address so I can catch up on the full problem and help out. -
Not sure if I responded to the wrong thread. Here is my support code Crystal - 314962 -
... still waiting. This will be the 4th week with no response from twitter. :( -
Inappropriate?Thank you Connie! I appreciate the help!
Here is my support code: 314962 -
Inappropriate?Awesome! How did you get your account deleted??
-
Richard, there were problems with Twitter's spam filter and human review. Some users were mistaken as spammers, unfortunately including many of the more active Twitter advocates. -
Inappropriate?Hi Richard:
I was one of the people who were wrongly suspended by Twitter. You can check out the related posts about it here: http://blog.davemadethat.com/?s=suspe...
Cheers,
Dave -
Inappropriate?Your Twitter account got deleted without any reason?
