Auto-complete username on @ replies
How about a (subtle, unobtrusive) auto-complete function when writing @ replies to people on your contact list? I tend to forget exact spellings of usernames, but more often than not remember the first letter. Yahoo's Pattern Library captures this approach: http://icanhaz.com/autocomplete

Inappropriate?Hi boxman. I'm curious -- is there a reason why you would prefer not to use the reply arrow that's shown to the right of each tweet (next to the trash can icon)? Clicking the reply "swoosh" or arrow automatically adds @username to the "What are you doing?" box.

Inappropriate?I use the reply arrow if that user is still visible, but that's not always possible if that person hasn't tweeted for a while (i.e. they're not on my home page any longer).
But, it's a good point. May be this is a bit of an edge case? Overkill perhaps? -
IMHO, any suggestion is always worth listening to. 8-)
I don't know if it would be technically feasible, though, since Twitter has over 3 million users now (according to TwitDir), and the auto-complete is likely to be slow with that many possible values to choose from as you type in the name... but that's just me (and I don't speak for Twitter) -
Oh gosh, I don't mean auto-complete for *every* username–just those on your contact list. Currently, it's a bit of a faff having to cycle through pages of contacts to find one name. -
Haha! I should have known better. Yes, I can see how auto-complete for just your friends would really help.
( Though people like http://twitter.com/barackobama with 150,000+ friends would probably prefer to turn it off. haha! )
