Hey, I found a way to remove unwanted followers! If you go to your settings and change your updates to private, when you bring up your list of followers there's a "remove" tab next to each one, including the ones you blocked recently. Click "remove" and they're gone! If you don't want your updates to be private, just change it back and the removed followers will still be gone. It takes a little more effort than before, but until the bug is fixed, there's a way to get them off your list.

Inappropriate?I thought this was how Twitter worked... and I really don't like it. I wish that when I blocked someone they were gone for good and non longer polluted my Twitter account...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Twitter used to remove blocked users from your follower list. That seems to have changed over the past couple of weeks. I think that it is a bug. I have reported it to them as a bug. At least, the people do seem to be blocked.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?Same thing here....happened after I got a bunch of real estate SPAM....all 15+ of my blocked followers from Friday are still there.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, same issue here. Although the users appear to be blocked, they are adding to my followers page, which I do not want.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? When I try to unblock someone, to try re-block them, I get the following error:
/blocks/destroy/51360034 This method requires a POST or DELETE
Definitely looks like a bug to me :(
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I wish it were real estate spam, but I'm getting porn. And every time I open my followers list I see those pictures. And I don't want to see them. I want them OFF and GONE.
I’m unhappy
-
yep, same problem with me. -
Inappropriate?Me too - and I've only just joined Twitter, - the "followers" I've blocked and can't remove look very much like spammers too!!! - FIX IT.
-
Inappropriate?Any response from Twitter on this? I've had this issue for at least a week now. Quite clearly it's widespread.
-
Inappropriate?twitter needs to fix the problem. they just want people to talk about it I quess.
-
Inappropriate? It's extremely annoying. Some of them are raunchy looking, and the blocked list is now longer than the regular list. They need to fix it.
I’m Very irritated
-
Inappropriate?I keep putting in a request, but Twitter keeps closing it and marking it solved. Since they're only sending me canned responses about follow limits and how to report spam, I suspect that nobody is actually reading it. But I keep reopening it every time, and will do so until I get a response that actually addresses the problem.
I’m very frustrated and angry
-
Inappropriate?Same happening here (for about a week now) - it's incredibly irritating when you're followed by spammers / advertisers / suspended accounts (the fowl owl) / non-tweeters (who usually follow a few hundred accounts, and many of those are following back...)
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I just joined and considered deleting my account because of this. Yes, they are blocked, but I still see their "off-color" message! Please remove these, Twitter. PLEASE!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'd rather not have to make my updates private, because I don't mind (fully-clothed) people reading my tweets before adding me, but this has gotten annoying. I've sent messages to @spam with no response. If I block someone, I don't want their picture showing up on my follow list.
I’m annoyed

Lynn, this seems to work...thanks! :) -
Hello Lynne. Thanks for posting this "work around". If only Twitter Tech Support were able to resolve the issue so quickly! Let's hope they do shortly, so that we can all re-set our accounts to "Public" once again. All the best, AlanLB. -
THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! -
Thank you, this helps a lot. I still wish twitter would fix the bug and we could aviod this, but for now, this is great! -
This worked wonderfully!!! Thanks!!!!!! WOOT!! -
Thanks a lot, Lynne. This fixes the issue without 'fixing' it. :) -
Tutorial for this fix - http://shansgrl.livejournal.com/21079... -
Thanks Lynne. I had a string of prostitutes following me but no more. Now is there a filter that keeps them out while allowing others in? -
Finlay, that be cool to have a filter! Glad it's working out; at least there's something to do until it's fixed for real. I'm still checking my followers regularly because it seems that the unsavory ones are added to my follow list with no notification.
Suttygal, I set mine back to public and the people I removed are still gone. I switch it back briefly when I see others I want to remove, then back to public. -
I tried your suggestion and it seemed to remove them. I'm now "back to public' so we'll see if they can remain off my list. Thank You!!
I’m thankful -
Thank you for this fix! I'm not going to say it solves the problem, though, because it's a royal PITA to have to make myself unpublic just to remove followers. This still needs to be fixed. -
Thanks Lynne -
You ROCK !!! -
This didn't work the first time I tried it (couple of days ago), but I decided to try it again. Second time's the charm, I guess. But should we really have to jump through hoops to keep our "followed by" list clean of slurpers and spammers? -
thanks it works! -
thanks it works! -
Helps Greatly Thank you so much -
Thanks so much for this, my only concern is why Twitter couldn't have just told us this? -
Thanks Lynne! It does work. But Twitter should sort the bug out properly -
thanks!!! -
greatgreatgreat! thanks a lot! :))) -
Big thanks from Seattle too! :-D -
Inappropriate?I don't want others to wonder why I have all these strange and dodgy followers, please fix this!
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the workaround Lynne Hoenig! Hopefully this issue will be fixed but I'm glad to be able to get rid of the raunchier ads.
I’m Slightly mollified
-
Inappropriate? This is an annoying bug. Or did the spammers find a workaround to trick Twitter?
I’m pissed.
-
Inappropriate?I don't think we should have to jump through hoops to remove dirt and spam from our follow lists. My request to Twitter has been closed three times by bots and the auto-generated emails didn't have anything to do with this problem.
I’m pissed and frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This seems like such a simple problem to fix for Twitter, it makes me wonder why they can't seem to automatically fix it or at least post the manual fix themselves. Anyone think they are paid to let these people do this? Porn is big money, BIG!
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? The workaround that Lynne posted does work, but it's quite a pain to have to change settings, remove the blocked people (and remember which ones they are if you have a lot of followers because the "blocked" sign isn't there any more) and then go change your privacy setting back. I hope Twitter peeps just fix the bug.
I’m Annoyed
-
Inappropriate? With the new followers page, all you need to do is unblock the offending accounts and then block them again and they will disappear.
It looks like Twitter were updating the follower/following code.
It would be nice if already blocked accounts would disappear automatically, but at least you don't have to change your privacy settings.
I’m still annoyed it occurred but thankful there is an easier fix now
-
Inappropriate? My problem is similar - Getting spam from a a guy who is NOT on my following or follower lists so I can't apply Lynne's solution. I have tried going to his account, following/unfollowing or blocking but still the tweets come - 80 a day!
Anyone else have this variation?
I’m Tearing hair out !!
-
Inappropriate?Twitter appears to have implemented a permanent fix for this. I have successfully blocked several unwanted followers. Simply clock the tool "gear" icon under actions and select "Block [name]". They do disappear after that.
Note that twitter will review users that receive a large number of block requests and take appropriate action per there TOS. They suggest, however, that you send the user name to @spam so that they are aware of it. Typically I will send the following:
@spam porn spam from abcpornuser
Hope this helps.
Keith.
I’m thankful
