Blocked user still listed on my followers as blocked
I can't block a spammer. Says he's blocked, but he doesn't come off my followers list. I have tried both on my followers list and on my followers list.

Hi guys, this is a known bug that we're working on, and almost done fixing! The good news is, the person really is blocked. The bad news is, the follow number and page is not keeping up with the times. I"ll post an update here as soon as the fix goes live.

Inappropriate?I noticed this yesterday, too. I tried blocking a spammer, I get a confirmation message saying i'm blocking the person, yet the user still shows up on my Followers list, with the option to unblock. Weird.
I’m hungry after seeing the cupcake photo.
-
Exactly. Weird and needing to be fixed by the Twitter folks. -
Inappropriate?Does you follower have an Underline "_" before their name? I had two of the same user name and one didn't have the Underline and the other did. I was able to block the non-underlined one and they were removed. I then tried the other one and I got what I posted about originally.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I had one of those underscored users Pokeyasd just mentioned. I blocked both and they both stayed in my list, at least until the accounts were deleted from Twitter.
My now-gone followers had thousands of "friends," so I wonder if anybody else were being followed. His usernames were Ty_C and _TyC, with more letters after each C. (I cut his names off in case the real person with that name was not the short-term Twitter user.)
I’m a little less frustrated, but still freaked out by my Twitterstalkers.
-
Inappropriate?OK so I went to go look at my followers just right now an the spammer is gone. HUMMM....
I’m thankful!!!
-
Inappropriate? That was the same guy I had microtd!!
I feel much better about the state of affairs now. ;-) -
Inappropriate? The one I can't get to go away is: Oozzl
No underscores or anything weird in the username that I can see.
-
Same problem here -
I have the same guy on mine! Cant get him off...... -
Me, too! This is creeping me way out! -
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem with user ringernation.
I also noticed that this user is the only one for whom I didn't receive a notification email when they started following me. Not sure if that's relevant, but it seemed strange.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate? Is anyone from the Twitter Team replying to our questions or even letting us know they are working on this? Here is the guy I want gone from my followers....
valdemaximus / Tom
I blocked him and he still stayed on the list, I unblocked and reblocked him and nothing changed....
How about a response...any response from the Twitter people....
I’m frustrated
-
valdemaximus / Tom is on my list, too, along with several others that I
have blocked. And there's no reason they should be on my list. I can't see
the people that I DO want to see because my list is so full of people I
don't want to see! -
Inappropriate? For what it's worth, I just logged a support ticket stating that several people have reported not being able to block these four accounts:
http://twitter.com/johndossantos
http://twitter.com/valdemaximus
http://twitter.com/ringernation
http://twitter.com/Oozzl
I also included a link to this GSFN thread in that support ticket.
I've already received the auto-generated email message that confirms the support ticket has been received.
Based on previous experience with such tickets, I'm guessing that I'll get a reply from a support person in four or five working days.
Will let y'all know when I get a reply. -
Inappropriate? Here's my list of twits that won't go away:
http://twitter.com/CNNTopNews
http://twitter.com/Oozzl
http://twitter.com/valdemaximus
http://twitter.com/ringernation
http://twitter.com/selord
http://twitter.com/chicka89
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the info guys! I see I'm not the only one.
I have:
http://twitter.com/Oozzl
http://twitter.com/Ascendancy
I blocked them yet they still are listed!, blocked but listed >_<.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I didn't want to name names at first, but I'm having trouble blocking riyasenk. This person isn't as bad as ringernation, valdemaximus or Oozzl (I've been able to block those three successfully), but I just had another new spammer start following me, and I was able to block this person successfully. I tried unblocking then blocking riya again, but no luck.
-
Inappropriate?Have also submitted a support ticket (thanks mdy), and think that if enough of us do so, the busy Twitter folks might become aware of the problem and help us fix it.
-
Inappropriate?chicka89 and selord won't go away for me, and have a little lock icon next to them that I don't know what it means.
also
ringernation
oozzle
heather1985
I’m frustrated
-
The lock icon means their accounts are set to private (so only people they follow can see their tweets). -
Inappropriate? And I wish we could make it so people have to be approved before they could follow us... having that option would be nice.
-
I agree completely! -
Inappropriate?Same problem. Three followers, clearly spam for "ClickAudit". They are:
heather1985
Missy1988
Angela1988
Wish there were an answer...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?i've got the following spammers:

valdemaximus
oozzl

I’m annoyed with spammers
-
Inappropriate?I've never had this problem. I wonder what it is, maybe some spammers have managed to mess with twitter, found some kind of loophole. Let's hope it gets resolved soon.
-
Inappropriate?Hi,
I've successfully deleted dozens of fakes, including ringernation, a whole bunch of differently numbered chickas, and selord. But now I can't get novelwrite out of my follower page. It says I can unblock him there, but why do I even have to have him show as a follower when he's been blocked?
I’m angry
-
Inappropriate?I've successfully blocked several spammers, yet I can't block tangyerik. He's not a spammer, he just randomly added my twitter to his followers list (I wonder why, since I only write in italian on twitter and I doubt he understands it). I clicked on "block", twitter says he's blocked, yet he still appears on my "followers" list and the thing kinda bugs me.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Some of the same users and a few more. Posting links to their profiles is only going to help their SEO, though, so I'm not going to do that.
I’m annoyed at the friggin' spammers and want them to just go away.
-
Inappropriate?Same again. I blocked TravelForCheap but they're still appearing in my Followers list. I tried unblocking, then blocking again but no joy - still there.
I’m irritated
-
Inappropriate?I'm stuck with riyasenk and DiggNews. No emails for either of them but I don't always get new follower emails anyway.
It's bad enough that twitter lets people automatically follow thousands of users at once, not letting us get rid of them just sucks. I don't want my account associated with these people in any way shape or form.
I'd also love an only allow followers that I've approved. That would be a big improvement to twitter.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have two Twitter accounts and each has one follower I can't get rid of. They won't disappear from the followers lists and they're still counted in followers totals. I've tried:
- blocking (and get the usual notice to say the block was successful);
- unblocking, then blocking again;
- unblocking, signing out, clearing the cache, signing back in and blocking again; and
- clicking the "block" on the followers list, and also the one on their individual Twitter pages.
I've been able to block & disappear other followers, though.
Ideally I'd like a "block" option that was a bit more emphatic: something more along the lines of "BAM! KAPOW!! You're GONE!!"
;) -
I'm partial to "Kapow!" myself. 8-) -
Yes - nice, succinct. So, between the two of us I think it's unanimous: Twitter needs to give us follow, block, and KAPOW! buttons :) -
Inappropriate?I went to 'Help' on Twitter, then submitted a request that the spammy follower I couldn't get rid of was removed. After probably a couple of hours or so, it had gone.
So, 'Help', 'Submit a request' should do it!
I’m hopeful this might help?!
-
Inappropriate?Hi,
I'm trying Katie Parry's idea now. Actually, I thought that was more or less what I was doing when the Twitter Help page redirected me here to GetSatisfaction.com.
Personally, I'd like to see a couple of changes to Twitter that might deal with this problem a bit better:
1) Allow people to opt into only allowing approved followers. I wouldn't like this as the default option, but it'd be a nice feature to add.
2) Require profiles that follow large numbers of people to have lots of followers as well. Concretely, to follow between 100 and 200 people, I think you should need to have at least half as many followers as people you follow. To follow more than 200 people, you should need more followers than people you follow. Spam be gone!
I’m waiting to see if Katie Parry's idea actually works.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Mark. I've logged quite a few of these support tickets myself. Based on my experience, you should get an automatically generated email that confirms your support ticket was received within minutes of submitting it. The email will contain a link to the ticket itself, so you can add more info about the ticket if something comes to mind.
It's my understanding that these tickets are queued and worked on in the order that they came in. An actual reply from a support person now seems to take 5 or 6 working days (for example, I received a reply yesterday for a ticket I had logged 7 days ago). And I'm still waiting for a reply to the ticket that I had logged 5 days ago.
Katie's case seems more a like a happy coincidence to me. My guess (but it's really just a guess) is that someone else had logged a ticket regarding that user already, and by fixing the problem of the other party, Twitter also managed to fix Katie's problem. -
Inappropriate?I have an adult site spammer, nikkikwiki that I blocked, and is still showing as a follower also. I hope this problem is solved soon.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm also having this problem. I've blocked a bunch of people and they always go away from my Followers page. One person doesn't seem to want to go away though and that is Oozzl. It's pissing me off because I've blocked, unblocked and blocked again plenty of times. The Twitter "Team" isn't doing much around here considering there a ton of people having this problem and a ton of people are sending in support tickets. It's quite annoying.
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem too I can't get rid of the spammmer!

I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Fwiw, the people that we're having trouble blocking all seem to be people who are following a large number of people... I think that's what's causing the bug.
It seems very similar to another thread in this forum where a specific user who was following a lot of people couldn't be blocked also. Thankfully, that particular case has already been resolved.
Anyway, I'm mentioning that because I received a reply yesterday from @crystal in response to the support ticket that I had logged. Here's part of the reply:
Thanks for this list; we're working on a master list of accounts following tons of people, and once it's complete, we will automatically remove everyone who is not following the account back.
If you do come across anyone else you'd like to add to the list, please let me know. Thanks for your help
I'll find some time later to add all the user ids that were mentioned in this GSFN topic thread to that support ticket so Twitter will have a complete list. I'll post an update here when I've done that.
So bottomline, they are aware of the problem and they have a plan for dealing with it. It's just a matter of time before they take action.

Inappropriate?Okay, I've gone through all the names that people say they can't block in this thread, and will be adding all these names to the support ticket that I had logged earlier (and which crystal had responded to).
Note that the following appear to have already been deleted:
- Angela1988
- Missy1988
- heather1985
- TravelForCheap
- nikkikwiki
- uois
- valdemaximus
The rest I'll be adding to the ticket.
- Ascendancy
- CNNTopNews
- DiggNews
- Oozzl
- chicka89
- johndossantos
- novelwrite
- ringernation
- riyasenk
- selord
- sjames23
- tangyerik
- we1zlgmzlgm
Please leave me a comment to this reply if I missed a name that you had reported.

The spammer/follower who I can't shake is:

I did receive an email response from Twitter stating they acknowledge there is a problem and are working to implement a fix ASAP.

Thanks. I've added it to the ticket. -
Inappropriate?Also add carrie2112.

Inappropriate? The following accounts appear to be part of the same cloud of spam accounts since they all link to the same get-rich-quick site (which I won't link to since it'll just improve their google ranking).

Inappropriate?I was unable to block johndossantos for a while; then I blocked someone else and johndossantos disappeared and the next spammer was in the same blocked-but-unblockable state. I blocked a few more people then all of a sudden the latest-blocked spammer was in that state, while the intermediate spammer was gone. Seems like an off-by-one code error?
I’m amused, since I've been there a lot
-
Inappropriate?Hi,
Interesting to learn about the one-spammer-at-a-time error reported by bossross_2063. That's not how "my" spammers' profiles are behaving, though.
By the way, Katie's little spam-crushing trick, mentioned above, didn't work for me.
I’m in hate with spam!

Inappropriate?Having the same problem with:
asdcash
karen4343
Presky
jasmin989
macey121
Hate having my followers list cluttered up with spammers since I can't order the list the way I want to see the followers I care about without clicking next->next->next

-
asdcash, macey121, and jasmin989 already logged above. Will add karen4343 to the 6figure spam list. Looks like Presky is owned Oozzl, who is already listed above. -
Inappropriate?I would be grateful if someone could please make Stella214 go away... I have also tried blocking her and she still shows on my list.
Thanks.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I've got this list from two Twitter accounts, but only jasmine534 hasn't been mentioned here (as far as I can tell):
Ascendancy
ringernation
Oozzl
mandy711
jasmine534
I was able to block some of the spammers, but these five just keep hanging on. One of the ones I blocked earlier had over 100k followers.
I’m irritated but hopeful this will be resolved!
-
Inappropriate? In my case the spammer is "sara323"
http://twitter.com/sara323
This seems to be a general problem?
I mean, those guys will just keep changing nicknames and go on spamming people? This looks like somebody hacked the system itself.
I’m unsure
-
sara323 appears to be one of the nicee spammers. Have reported. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?I've got barbie071 and stumpedia ... the fact that I can't dump them from my followers AND can't search for friends' email addresses is pissing me off ... is it time to pownce instead?
I’m pissed off

barbie071 appears to be one of many kinhun spammers. Have reported. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?I got a new one today and don't see it on any of the lists:
cathy233
I’m glad I can help, but this is annoying.
-
cathy233 appears to be one of four new 6figure spammers. Have reported. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Fwiw, the spammers that are listed in these blogposts have all been reported (including the one you just listed, WyldGade):
- 6figure spam
- lapon spam
- nicee spam
- kinhun spam
If you notice that your new spammy follower links to one of those domains, then there's a good chance they've already been reported.
-
Inappropriate?My 3 (so far) unblockables:
stella102
jasmine534
johnieO
Gads. Really annoying not to be able to get them off my page, and twitter support has not responded to my msg. left on 7/12/08.
I’m ticked, annoyed, frustrated, tired of spending time on this with no results
-
It's k again. Now I have four undeletable spammers, and the track-progress-on-your-problem link sent to me by twitter support when if first reported this problem doesn't work. "access code not available" or something like that. mdy--When IS twitter going to "perform their spam account clean-up"?? This problem just seems to be growing. Until recently, I never had any problem blocking spammers. Did it ALL the time. -
k, sorry to say that I don't have any info on their timeline, As to the 'access code not available' problem, it's thankfully temporary -- they're apparently migrating to a new help system. See http://gsfn.us/t/jjt for details. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I had cathy233 appear on my followers list this morning about 4:30AM. Blocked her at 4:31AM, whereupon she disappeared from the list.
Also blocked debbie565 successfully then as well.
It's odd that these profiles don't have the same kind of "stickiness" for everyone who's posted to this thread. Perhaps there's something in the code used by these spammers that gets "stickier" the longer you wait before you block them? Seems implausible, but it's the only guess I've got right offhand.
At any rate, the only fake follower who won't disappear for me is novelwrite.
I’m certain about what I'd wish for if I ever found Aladdin's lamp, 'cause no spammer would escape!
-
I got a reply five days after sending in a support request. It says:
(1) the problem is a bug they're working on;
(2) they're removing spam accounts; and
(3) they're banning certain users. -
Inappropriate?Guys -- anytime you feel like preemptively blocking spammy accounts who are mass-following others, I suggest visiting http://twitspam.blogspot.com and using the Block links that are provided there. (I usually just right-click and 'open in a new tab' with my browser)
Even if the spam account doesn't immediately drop off your Follower list, your Block action is still recorded. You can be assured that it is recorded because when you view the spam account's profile, the link at the bottom of their sidebar says 'Unblock' instead of 'Block'.
When Twitter performs their spam account clean-up, everyone that you've blocked will drop off your Followers list.
Note: You don't have to block every account that's listed on that site. It's up to you to decide if, based on the description, you agree that they're a spammy account. But at least this saves you the trouble of having to go to each account's profile page and looking for the Block link.
I’m happy to be blocking spammers
-
Inappropriate?Same issue, but the twit I can't remove is "flyupload" -- and I submitted my ticket on July 7, updated it on July 11.
I’m tired of spam followers
-
Inappropriate? For me, it's been the lapon.biz spamtwerps; I'm glad something's being done about them. Any word on WHEN Twitter is going to do their removal sweep?
I’m frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?I think when you block someone there may be a delay before the person may be removed. I notice this sometimes when people follow me or when I follow people. Twitter never used to be like this, but it may be a feature they recently incorporated into the site to help with the stability issues they were experiencing.
-
Inappropriate?I have also not been able to get rid of barbie071 on my followers page although I've blocked her.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Won't dissapear from mine and listed as "Account Does Not Exist":
itreallyworks
angela212
-
Inappropriate?Maybe it only appears to the user who blocked them when they're logged in so they remember they blocked them?
-
Inappropriate? Two more who I can't get to go away:
gadgetgirl79
MMATapout7
I'd settle for them disappearing within 24 hours of being blocked, I think. -
Inappropriate?imagine if people could be voted up or down based on their behaviour, we could rank people like ringernation down to a really low point which triggers a vote on banning/blacklisting them.
I’m giddy with the prospect of letting people know how much they are hated
-
That's a great idea! -

Woot! Thanks, Crystal! For the first time I find myself looking forward to a sharp drop in my follower count. haha! -
As long as it's working under the covers, I'm happy. Thanks for the heads up! -
Inappropriate?I just wanted to confirm that I'm having this issue too. I'm curious about how it will be fixed as some of the spammers accounts have been removed (which is a good thing). I don't want to unblock them (the only option listed), I just want them gone.
-
Inappropriate?EUREKA!! :-) I think I figured out a way to get rid of your blocked spammers who still show up in your list of followers. What I did with mine was 1) in a separate browser window, go to each of the offenders' twitter addresses. 2) For ones whose accounts were no longer there, I went back to my followers list (in the original browser window) and clicked the "unblock" button next to their name. 3) Then I tried to "block" them again, but got the "no such Twitter account" screen. 4) And when I returned to my profile, each of them was gone. Took a while since you have to do each one separately, but it worked, thankgod! (I might have tried to follow them at some point, but since their accounts were no longer there, I couldn't. Sorry, it was a couple of days ago, and I can't remember all the details now.) Give it a try; as long as you already know a particular account has been deleted, this should work.
I’m relieved!
-
I don't know why but it works! thank you. -
That doesn't work for me... I get a popup that says "are you sure you want to unblock this person?" and when I hit okay it says it can't find that page. So the spammer whose account was deleted (barbie071) is still in my list. -
Inappropriate?Well, the second (& last) of my pesky followers has gone in the last 24 hours. I don't know whether they've deleted his account or fixed the "follower list" problem, but thanks, Twitter.
-
But hang on... One day later and he's back. And still my only options are "follow" or "unblock". Where is the "NUKE!" button? Huh? Make him die, I'm sick of this. -
Inappropriate?Would it be a difficult task to make the followers list optional? If the follower email notifications were reliable, I'd prefer to go without the list in the sidebar. As long as it's public, it feels like I have to either block unwanted followers or (by leaving them there) endorse them. I'd prefer to list only the accounts I choose to follow - a kind of blogroll.
It's not like the followers list tells us much, anyway. It doesn't count anybody following (subscribing) by RSS, so... well, what's the point of it? Popularity grading? -
Inappropriate?Hi. I'm not sure if this will work for anyone else, but this work-around let me remove followers that I previously couldn't remove through Blocking.
1. I set my account to "protected" or private at http://twitter.com/account/settings
2. I went through my Followers list at http://twitter.com/followers and clicked the [Remove] button for anyone I don't want following me.
When I refresh my Followers list after removing someone, they no longer show up on my Followers list, and my Followers count decreases accordingly.
And when I visit the profile page of the other party, I no longer see the 'message' and 'nudge' actions on their sidebar (which was another indicator that they're following me).
It can be a bit of a pain to go through the Followers pages, but if this issue really bothers you, you might consider it worth the effort.
And when you're done, you can always set your account back to public at http://twitter.com/account/settings
I’m happy
