Can I get an email when someone requests to follow me?
I never know when someone wants to follow me until I pull up Twitter on the web (which isn't a lot these days since I use other apps to post to Twitter). I get notifications when people begin following me, who I am following, but I don't get those requests and suddenly there will be 4-6 requests I don't know about.

I have this question, too!
Tell me when someone answers.
The more people who ask this question, the more it gets noticed.

Inappropriate? From your account notification settings http://twitter.com/account/notifications click the check box that says "Email when someone starts following me" and going forward you should receive email notification of any new followers.
-
that doesn't work when you have it set that you have to APPROVE the people. yeah, it sends you the email after you have approved them... *sarcastically* /that's/ helpful....
For those of us that don't want everyone under the sun to be able to add us, we want to set it so that we moderate who follows us, and that when there are requests in queue it sends us an email to warn us so that those people get add/rejected sooner rather than later. -
Inappropriate?'tis checked, not the problem, thanks.
I’m smart enough to check the basics before asking for help

Inappropriate?Do you by any chance have your account set to private?
-
Inappropriate? It matters because I've noticed that if an account is set to private, Twitter currently does not send emails to notify you of follower requests. Technically no one has followed you yet at this point, so you don't get an email; they've only asked to follow you.
In contrast, if the account is public, Twitter *does* send an email to notify you when someone starts following you (if you've got notifications set up that way).
Therefore, if your account is public and you're still not getting emails, there's something wrong and it's a bug that needs to be looked into.
If your account is private and you're not getting notification emails, that's just the way Twitter is right now (which doesn't necessarily mean that it's right and shouldn't be changed, but at least we know it's not a glitch that's unique to your account)

Inappropriate?I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I KNOW that EVERY problem I've had with twitter has to do with protected updates. I get that. What I don't get is why this doesn't seem to be a problem, a bug, but simply a "feature" of protected updates. It shouldn't matter if my updates are protected. I should still get that email. My getting notifications should have NOTHING whatsoever to do with whether my updates are protected!
I’m going to scream if one more person tells me "it's because you're account is private"

Inappropriate?I'd like it if Twitter lets users specify whether or not they want to be notified of follower requests when their account is set to private, rather than automatically generating an email.
( Personally, I wouldn't want to be notified of every follower request, because some people can be persistent about requesting access despite being denied several times. Nor do I want to have to get an email every time they cancel the "request to follow", then click the "request to follow" link again. ) -
Inappropriate?but how is it different when you're private? I would think it would be MORE important to get those notifications because it requires action (accept or deny) whereas a public account wouldn't need to do anything in response.
As for your complaint against it though, isn't that what the block feature is for? It's specifically to block people from continuing to requesting to follow you after you deny them. -
Inappropriate?Ah, sorry. I don't think I was clear in my earlier response -- I just meant that I'd like a way to opt out of the notification emails if Twitter were to add a feature whereby users with private accounts get an email each time someone requests to follow them.
We have the ability to opt out of email notifications with public accounts. I'm just saying that I want the same ability to opt-out of those notification emails when it comes to private accounts.
And yes, you make a valid point that the block feature is there for people who keep requesting to get your updates. It just so happens that there are people I don't want following me, but I don't want (or more precisely, can't afford) to offend by blocking them. So leaving them in limbo without getting hit by emails works out just fine for me. -
Inappropriate? My timeline is also set to private, and its annoying that I also never receive emails of new follower requests. I agree, its MORE important for private accounts as it requires an action.
The fact that it doesn't work seems like a bug. If it were a feature, the "Email when someone starts following me" option wouldn't be there on the settings page for private timelines or at least there would be a note to say that this is for public timelines only.
I’m frustrated
