Hi,
Are you on a pre-paid plan? If so, this is why. Pre-paid plans don't support text messaging to short codes like 40404. If you're not using a pre-paid service, I'd suggest calling T-Mobile to make sure your phone is enabled for text messaging to short codes in particular. One other way to test is to send a message like "weather, san francisco" to the Google shortcode, 46645.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?twitter.com 40404 short-code doesn't work on t-mobile, use # instead +44 7624801423

Inappropriate?I JUST ported to T-Mobile prepaid from a Verizon contract and just discovered this. Why no short codes, T-Mobile, WHY?! I'm PAYING you to use it! Ergh!
I’m disgruntled!
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately it's not going to work. Tmobile removed all shortcodes, even google. Use that UK number I provided.
-
Inappropriate?Tried the number with no response. Anything special I need to do? (I've only dialed an international number a few times to Japan.)
-
Inappropriate? If I remember correctly, you should go to Twitter control panel and say that you want to use cell phone. Then they'll ask you to send a certain code to a SHORTCUT number that doesn't work. So what you do is you do exactly as they say except you send the code not to shortcut number but to the UK number I showed you.
-
Inappropriate? Now the "Devices" page says "We couldn't contact your phone, so we've had to turn updates off. You'll need to re-enable updates here before you can receive them again."
So, it look's like a bust. Oh well, didn't plan on using mobile updates much. I may test it again some time... Thanks anyway!
I’m rarely surpris at the failured promises of technology...

Inappropriate?Actually i have T-Mobile's flexpay and recently got it hooked back up and it now works. i can twitter from my cellphone. I dont know if it is different if you have the pre-paid top card or not. Pre-Paid=No Contact & FlexPay=Contact but you pre-pay confusing i know but how tmobile told me its easy FlexPay is like a Post-Paid account mean you use the service then pay but instead you pre-pay it first. If you dont pay you get shut off until you do no surprise $1000 bill. So in all it just may depend on how your service plan is setup.

IMandy, did you get it working by sending the authorization code to the UK number? Or it works sending to the regular 40404 shortcode? I still get the message that this feature is not available for my service plan when I send to the short code. I'm also on FlexPay. -
Inappropriate?I got it work on the 40404 number. I never could get it work on the UK number. Ive even deleted my number and started over with my new phone number and it works everytime. I even used my moms number(whos also a flexpay plan user) and it worked using the 40404 number each time

It must be some "feature" that they can remove/add-on that is the culprit. I'm looking at my bill under Available Services. I wonder if it's the "Spend Control Unl Msg", or if that's just more description for "Msg Bundle UNL AC." Have you noticed anything different/missing under the Available Services section of your bill with the new number? -
Well, I just called T-Mobile again about it, and all they said was FlexPay is supposed to have short code services blocked and if it's not, it must be a system fluke/you got lucky. They weren't really willing to take a look at the features in the billing system to see if anything could be removed to let me use my unlimited messaging. The only other thing that was suggested is to put money in the Flex Account side, but I have 9.00 in there, and that didn't change anything. Do you have a higher amount in yours? -
Inappropriate?Well it'd be cool if we all said what we're using. I am just using regular t-mobile (USA) contract. I have six month contract.
For me UK number works, shortcut number doesn't. -
Inappropriate?Nope i dont have anything in my flexaccount. I just may have gotten lucky.
