Can't change username to a deleted account's username. Created a new account to change usernames, didn't know you could just go and change them
Deleted new one within 10 min.
Tried emailing Twitter Support. Got an email back saying that they deleted my new account. Still doesn't work. Says username still taken. Sent a reply that they didn't resolve it, haven't gotten a response.

Inappropriate?You usually have two options:
1. Recovery the deleted account so that it's yours again and you can change the user name in settings.
2. Wait for the delete to be completed so you can use the old username with a newly created account
Option 1 would have been the ideal way to go. Unfortunately, there's (for the moment) an unresolved problem with recovering or reactivating deleted accounts, which they're working on right now. Details are in this related thread.
