Can't get Twitter to work on my phone.
Having problems setting up Twitter on my cell. I keep placing in my number with the country code and then send the verification code to the US short code. But I get nothing back in return.

Inappropriate?Yup, same exact problem here.
I actually got a response earlier on, but my mobile device was never actually added.
So when I tried to add it again recently, just didn't get a response.
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate? My phone won't let me send it because there is no area code. My phone service started that last month and now I can't text any codes to numbers that do not have an area code.
I’m frustrated

I know from other threads in this forum that some users have had to call their mobile provider (they usually seem to be Sprint customers) and ask that their accounts be allowed to send sms to shortcodes because shortcodes were blocked on their accounts. Is it possible that your mobile account is currently blocking shortcodes as well, and that's why it's requiring numbers with area codes? -
Inappropriate?I confirmed on my phone and got a reply, but it's still not confirmed on the site and I can't post from the phone. I'm nott sure what to do next.

This is what happened to me.. I added my phone # (t-mobile).. then texted the code to the number.. I got a reply INSTANTLY asking for my name.. I sent my name.. and haven't gotten anything since... I even tried doing the whole thing over.. deleting my number and reentering it, but now I don't even get the text reply asking for my name. I don't know what to do.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Wook. Could you elaborate further -- what kind of reply did you get? Did Twitter respond by asking you for your name? Or did you a get a "notifications are now on" reply?
-
Inappropriate?I am having the same issue and am using sprint. How do I check to see if i am blocked for short codes? I can get Twitter to respond for things like "help", "on", and "off" but I get no messages from friends. :(
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Forgive if this sounds insulting, but I had to take a while to figure it out, it's not obvious or well-documented:
1) you need to add your phone as a mobile device on Twitter (that's the part they had you do)
2) you need to go to your list of "People you follow" and TURN ON the people you want to receive txt tweets from. You can't just be following them, you also have to authorize txt distribution of their tweets.
Seems simple, but it kept me dark for two days. Hope this helps. -
How do you get there? -
Suenami, to add your phone to your Devices page, go to http://twitter.com/devices
To go to the "People you follow" list, go to http://twitter.com/friends -
Inappropriate?mdy, thanks for your reply. I've gotten my phone added now. It was totally my fault.
Everyone else, here's what worked for me:
Make absolutely sure when you enter your phone number for the device, you put the "+" and your country code before your phone number. For those of us in the USA, it would be "+1(your phone number starting with area code)"
sab, I had the exact same thing happen the first time I tried and thought I was connected until I checked my account again. I hadn't added the +.
Good luck everyone!
I’m thankful

Thanks for the info.. I checked and double checked to make sure I had the +.. I was able to use the m.twitter.com to update my feed.. but that takes so much longer than texting.. lol I found a link to a FAQ that said to make sure SMS was enabled and stuff.. It listed things to check.. I was able to send and receive from Google, I sent "get biz" to twitter and got a reply back with biz's stuff.. I just can't get my phone registered.. Thanks again, though! -
Inappropriate? My phone service is Pocket and I've tried with no luck to set up my phone on twitter. I'm going to bed, this sux!
I’m flabbergasted! I can't get my phone to tweet.

Inappropriate? With a little more information, someone may be able to help:
- Which country are you in?
- Which Twitter No. do you use for Twitter SMS text messages (21212, 40404, ...)?
(Don't reveal any private information on this public site, though). -
Inappropriate?Well, I called MetroPCS and they claim to allow short code usage. However, I haven't been able to get one to work yet. As far as the other things I have read, Twitter and MetroPCS have not yet worked out a deal, so I guess I'm out of luck for a while. Boo!!!!
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Tried adding the + but it didn't seem to work, either. I guess the previous posts that say Twitter doesn't work with MetroPCS are still correct. I was hoping they would come to an agreement sometime soon. ::shrug:: Working with the mobile website doesn't work either. For some reason it keeps rejecting my info. GRRRR!!!!! Maybe someday I'll get a 'good' phone! =)

Inappropriate?I also have Sprint, and after double checking the format (+1) and typing in several different codes and recieving no response, I am very disappointed. I even called Sprint Tech Support and they told me the the device should be able to recieve any text so long as I enable it to recive texts at all. As I don't have time to be online often, the excitement of Twitter was the text option.

Inappropriate?Autumn Bunce :
I'm assuming your carrier is Sprint (USA), in which case you need to send your Twitter SMS text messages to 40404. From what you say, you've already entered your phone number correctly (format: +1AreacodeNumber without spaces, leading zeros or other extra characters) on your http://twitter.com/devices page.
Though not all Sprint representatives are aware of it: in some cases Sprint disables certain (but not always all) short codes for individual users, and specifically Twitter's 40404 short code. So you should contact Sprint via Sprint Chat (please click) and ask them to enable 40404 for your phone.
Several Twitter Sprint users have reported that Sprint Chat gives you the best chance of reaching a competent person who has heard of Twitter, 40404, and a possible block on short codes. (Some users who called Sprint Tech Support had to try several times before reaching a competent person).
According to one Sprint user, Sprint's current explanation is that, since some unscrupulous individuals use their own short codes of their own to trick victims into paying for services they don't want, it's best to protect all Sprint customers from ALL short codes, just to be on the safe side (even though Twitter's 40404 is safe).
Whilst the block on 40404 is in place, it's impossible even to verify your phone with Twitter.
I’m hoping this helps.

Inappropriate?I'm on Metro PCS and have this exact problem. Could Metro also be blocking short codes to "protect" its users?
I’m po'd
-
Inappropriate?I have metro too and have the same problem, the text message wont send the short code. Gonna talk to Metro and then update
I’m frustrated but determined
-
Inappropriate?I have the same issue, except I know to use +1 before my number, and now they even provide a separate box for that... every time I text the code to 40404, nothing happens. My phone used to be connected to Twitter but it stopped working (receiving Twitter texts, posting my updates) when Twitter was hacked, so now I was trying to re-start it.
I’m freaking out
