can't validate/complete registration of IM via jabber

Here is the deal, I've entered my jabber id, gotten the code word to send to verify, added twitter@twitter.com as a buddy, but I'm getting a message that says twitter is not authorized yet. The name is greyed out in the buddy list. I've tried iChat and Psi with no joy.

I can't authorize it because I can't sent the code. I can't send the code because I'm not authorized. Catch 22!

Direct authorization link does not work, from Safari, or Firefox. I'm stuck.

I have this problem, too! Tell me when someone solves it.
The more people who report this problem, the more it gets noticed.

Remove Inappropriate?
Delete or Edit for 15 minutes

Hi. Twitter IM is currently down and has been down for a month or so. It'll be back eventually, but no one knows when.

Try using another interface for Twitter. You could try the web interface, the SMS interface, or you could use a 3rd-party application for Twitter such as Twhirl, http://twhirl.org
