Can't verify my Sprint Palm Centro - Sprint sucks!
I'm trying to set up Twitter with my Sprint Palm Centro. I keep texting 40404, and I don't get a reply. I also tried sending a short code to Google - and still no reply. I called Sprint to see if they could check to see if my short codes were blocked, and they said all of their phones don't support third-party applications such as Twitter. Then how is it that other Sprint customers can tweet from their mobiles and I can't? Please help.

OK - so lesson learned. Don't always believe what the first customer service rep tells you. Keep calling back until someone who knows what they're doing actually helps. The first rep said no one on Sprint phones can Twitter (which isn't true). She told me my short codes weren't blocked. The second person said that my short codes were blocked, then proceeded to unblock them. Hopefully this'll work now!

I hope so too! 8-) -
Inappropriate?I had exactly the same situation with my Palm Treo 700p. I called Sprint and had someone tell me that short code messaging was not blocked, but she then transferred me to technical support, who informed me that it was blocked. They unblocked it and it works fine now. I would have never guessed this was the problem had I not seen this post.
Incidentally, Twitter and my phone worked fine together until May 3, when, for some unknown reason, Sprint suddenly started blocking short code messaging. I'm sure I'm not the only person whose short code text messaging was suddenly blocked. They have been having a lot of these kinds of problems during their merger with Nextel. We are really unhappy with Sprint.
I’m irritated too.

Inappropriate?Just as another data point, I have a Sprint Palm Centro and can text 40404 just fine.
-
Inappropriate?Still doesn't work. I've called sprint and they say that nothing is blocked. How do I fix this?
I’m T.O'd
-
Inappropriate?Dan, don't give up just because the first person from Sprint says it's not blocked. I think only the real tech support people know what is and isn't blocked. The first people who answered in my case told me nothing was blocked, and that was incorrect.
I’m sympathetic!

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. Worked fine on my Sprint Treo650 but my Centro won't work. Called and asked them to enable short codes twice. Still nothing. Downloaded MoTwit but it would be nice to have 40404 updates.
I’m dissappointed.

Inappropriate?Called Sprint Tech support - Indeed all short codes were being blocked, Unblocked 40404 and worked fine after that... 20 minutes later.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I have Sprint's Sanyo Katana. I couldn't verify it. I called tech support like these guys said to do, and sure enough, all is good in the hood... finally.
I’m relieved and less annoyed

Inappropriate?Yeah. I'm on the phone with Sprint and she can't verify my "Account Questions". How many times do I have to say it? "Can you spell that?" Ok, and she says that my short codes aren't blocked either. Then she says, "Well they use the Internet, does your Internet work?" "Yes, my internet works." "Do you mean email addresses?" "No. Short text numbers. Like for Google. Or Twitter. Or my radio station." "Oh. Did they ever work?" "No." "Oh. Ok. Well. Um. Are you on that phone?" "Yes." "Ok, turn it off and then back on in about 45 seconds." But I thought I heard her mutter something about "Premium Services" that makes me a little leery. Hmmmmm. I have a Centro, btw, and have been on Sprint for pretty much eternity.
I’m irritated.

Did you go directly to tech support? Regular agents aren't too smart and don't always understand the language. -
I just tried tech support on the phone, they tell me the short code is not blocked, that no short codes are blocked but I still don't receive messages. I'm going to try another agent as suggested -
Inappropriate?I finally got short codes to work! I had success when I used Sprint's online chat feature. I asked her to activate short codes, specifically 40404. She had me hold a moment. She came back and asked me if it worked. I had her wait while I sent the verification code again and lo and behold -- it finally works! Link to Sprint Chat: http://www.sprint.com/landings/chat/?...
I’m elated!

Congrats! And thanks for sharing that chat link. I hope it works for other people too. -
Inappropriate?I contacted Sprint via their Chat as suggested above. They advised me that short codes were indeed activated. (I realized that I have no trouble texting ChaCha at 242242.) She then suggested that the company might be blocked specifically, which is exactly what the problem was. All is working well for me now. (Palm Centro also)

Inappropriate?I had the exact same problem. I contacted customer service through the online chat and of course at first the customer service rep seemed to not believe my problem. Then I think she talked to tech support because she later said she saw that google is blocked. Go figure. I told her if she saw twitter there to unblock it as well. I didn't really get a strong confirmation either way so I guess if I can't do it by the end of the day, I will call tech support.
Why does Sprint think it's such a bright idea to block shortcodes anyway without giving the user a way to unblock specific codes?
I’m annoyed

well, there we go! Now my phone verifies. :) -
Inappropriate?thank you for this info. i have been very frustrated the past 3 weeks because of twitter not working all of a sudden. one call to sprint and all was fixed!
I’m happy

Wow, that's great! 8-) -
Inappropriate?First of all, who made me a cupcake..... :-( Just remembered, I have 3rd party texting blocked on my phone. Maybe that is why I can't verify my phone. I am not going to turn it off, so I guess I can't use this service. Please let me know if that could be the reason.
I’m waiting for an answer.

Inappropriate?I have a treo 650. SMS didn't work for me when I first tried, but I have web access so just went to m.twitter.com. Works fine that way, and I am unlimited web so no worries about the number of posts.

Inappropriate?this happened recently to me after we got a bunch of unauthorized ring-tones billed to my account - sprint also put a block on short codes (apparently how they are triggered). Took 3 attempts to get through to someone who could remove the block. The online chat was how I resolved, but ecare over email was no help at all, they kept telling me it was not blocked.

Thanks for the info, Bill. This will be helpful to other Sprint users in the future.
