Connection times out when trying to use Tweetie or Twitterfon, maybe others

Since about last Thursday the 3rd of September, I can't access twitter from either Tweetie or Twitterfon. I don't want to buy another app until I know that I will be able to log in; the connection just times out when I try. The "known issues" page says that logging out and logging in will fix it but that hasn't done the trick. HELP!
