Constantly exceeding Twitter's API limit
Regardless of which Twitter application I use, I find I continually exceed the API limits even when I am not actively using the application (and only using one application at a time).
In both Tweetdeck and Twhirl I have lowered the API usage in the settings, and regardless of which one I use they still exceed the limits, often when I first boot-up my computer.
I understand that Twitter has increased the API limits, so I wonder if there is a problem with my account (@davefleet)?

Inappropriate?Hi Dave. It's possible that there are other third-party apps that are accessing your account (possibly from experimentation with other services...?)
One easy way to test it is to change your Twitter password at http://twitter.com/account/password and use your new password only with Tweetdeck and Twhirl. This should effectively cut off other apps that are accessing your account via the API.
Also, you can make this API call at any time (without affecting your API limit) to check how many calls you have left in the current hour: http://twitter.com/account/rate_limit...
You'll get back something that looks like this:
< remaining-hits type="integer">89< /remaining-hits>
< hourly-limit type="integer">100< /hourly-limit>
< reset-time-in-seconds type="integer">1226077857< /reset-time-in-seconds>
< reset-time type="datetime">2008-11-07T17:10:57+00:00< /reset-time>
remaining-hits shows you how many calls you can still make in the current hour, while hourly-limit shows how many calls we're allowed to make per user per hour.

Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue. I woke up this morning about 12 hours ago unable to log into my account with anything other than the actual web page. I changed my password and checked the rate_limit link above several times. Almost every time i check the rate_limit link it returns a later time when my hourly limit will be reset;
−
<hash>
<hourly-limit type="integer">100</hourly-limit>
<reset-time-in-seconds type="integer">1229477092</reset-time-in-seconds>
<reset-time type="datetime">2008-12-17T01:24:52+00:00</reset-time>
<remaining-hits type="integer">0</remaining-hits>
</hash>
As you can see, it's scheduled to be reset in about 6 hours from now at 01:24:52 tomorrow. Earlier tonight it was scheduled to be reset at 10pm.
Why is this happening? I can't use my apps and the reset time keeps getting delayed! I'm not using any other apps and like i said, my password has been reset so no 3rd party software is accessing my account.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I used the link above to check my limit and got
<hash>
<reset-time-in-seconds type="integer">1230348776</reset-time-in-seconds>
<remaining-hits type="integer">0</remaining-hits>
<reset-time type="datetime">2008-12-27T03:32:56+00:00</reset-time>
<hourly-limit type="integer">100</hourly-limit>
</hash>
I have changed my password several times as well. All I use is Twitterfon and have been having this problem since Dec 11. My username is faithmight

Inappropriate?I am having similar issues and have been for about a month now. It's quite frustrating. I've changed my password several times during that time. I have also tried un-linking other online services that link into my twitter account. My rate-limit query shows this:
<hash>
<remaining-hits type="integer">0</remaining-hits>
<hourly-limit type="integer">100</hourly-limit>
<reset-time-in-seconds type="integer">1230837206</reset-time-in-seconds>
<reset-time type="datetime">2009-01-01T19:13:26+00:00</reset-time>
My username is benvon.</hash>
