Could you please give users the option to turn off "Tips"?
They are massively annoying, mostly useless, and rather confusing. I'd really like to not see them, as well as not subject people who are following me to them.

Ever since I've started getting them, I've been looking for a way to kill them. Even if I have to pay to become a "Twitter Pro" just so I can get the option to make them stop - as well as get rid of the impending ads that are no doubt coming in that space - I'd gladly do it.

Yes please! I've actually taken to making my messages longer in an attempt to avoid "tipping" my friends. Getting to know all the phone commands has been great, but more often than not I just feel like I've gotten a pop-up on my phone.

Inappropriate?I wouldn't even mind an ad as much as I mind the tips - no one is going to confuse an advertisement for something I said, and likewise I won't read "what are you doing... tonight?" and have to double take thinking someone just asked me out.

Inappropriate?I'm very annoyed at the constant tips that have been added into twitter. Next will be ads and then I'm off! These should be configurable... even if that were a pay for service! Surely it would be simple to do a #tipsoff to stop such things!
Please let us know what can be done to get rid of them. On demand tips is fine but random ones esp to mobiles is just plain rude!

Inappropriate?I was used to twitter tips via SMS which was annoying but didn't cause as much scroll as when they are sent via im and 3rd party clients. they are annoying and really have no point. The only thing i can think of is that you're eventually going to turn them into ads and if that's the case then I definitely don't want them.

Inappropriate? The REALLY annoying thing about the tips is that *most* of my direct messages (which I receive via SMS) come in two parts. Since I only have 200 SMS messages per month, this is extremely annoying.
You need to either 1) get rid of them, 2) give us the option to turn them off, or 3) at the VERY LEAST, make sure the whole message 140 char tweet + tip doesn't go over the standard SMS limit.
Double SMS messages 9 times out of 10 is getting very old.

Inappropriate? It is also annoying over IM. I tend to log into Google Talk via BlackBerry (to avoid large SMS bills), and on a small screen the tips often result in scrolling WAY before it's time.
At minimum, please give us a way to turn it off!

Inappropriate?I actually think the tips are quite cute, I don't use Twitter via IM, but I like the tips like "don't tweat and drive" and "twitter loves you".
I’m not really bothered

Inappropriate?I actually like the tips sometimes. Twitter is great, but there is a bit of a learning curve for some people. In these kind of situations, tips can be very helpful. I don't mind tips that are specifically there to help me learn how to extend Twitter. Although, I do understand the fear that these will simply turn into an advertising vehicle.
Maybe this conversation points out the need for these tips to be refined to be something more than they are now -- or different in some way?
I’m tipsy

Inappropriate?Tips are not helpful when received six times an hour. Nor are they helpful for people who are over that learning curve. There still needs to be an option to turn these off.
Better yet, make a @twittertips and allow people to follow it if they need. -
Inappropriate?I don't disagree. I think these are all good ideas. I'm just saying I'm sure there's a middle ground here somewhere.
