Direct messaging is not working
Direct messaging is not working for a number of people. Specifically, if you hit "reply" to a direct message or try to click on "message" on someone's individual page, you get the message "You must POST to this action!!" We are still able to DM someone by using the drop-down menu from the Direct Message page, but this is not as convenient.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Inappropriate?DM working improperly, I understand twitter is a free service, I do, I love you guys, but c'mon. Enough is enough.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?@kurtismccartney is reporting he cannot send a DM to me or @keithburtis through a third party application although he can DM others.
@tinkugallery and @annbernard are also reporting same problem as me with DMs.
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate? My partner in twitter pain @davedelaney is also reporting same problem. Thanks.
I’m starting to get more frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I get the same "You must POST to this action!!" error message when I click the "reply" link next to a Direct Message.
I get the same behavior regardless of whether it's a "reply" link for a DM in my inbox or Sent Items.
First noticed it a couple of hours ago.
Worked around it by using the dropdown to select the name of the person I wanted to send the DM to.
I’m hoping this gets fixed soon.

Forgot to add: WinVista. Firefox 2.0.0.16 -
exactly my issue - Win XP FF 3.0.2 -
Inappropriate?I received a direct message from @labmistress solely via e-mail but cannot locate it through the web interface. DM propagation has been seen in my Twitter stream as erratic where @arielwaldman was having problems. I'm otherwise seen on Twitter as @stephenk.
I’m confused

Hello. Just to double-check: do you mean that you don't see the DM at http://twitter.com/direct_messages? If yes, there's a chance that the person who sent you the DM deleted it from their Sent DMs page. The DM is shared, so when either the sender or the recipient deletes it, it's removed from *both* accounts. -
Then such was sent then immediately deleted by the sender. That doesn't make sense. -
I am set up on MacOSX 10.4.11 running Safari 3.1.2 and twhirl 0.8.4 -
Some people like to keep their DM inbox and sent folders empty. I'm one such person -- which is how I discovered this behavior in the first place. 8-) The person I was DMing was surprised that he got an email but didn't see a DM in his Direct Msgs page. I had deleted it from my Sent items before he logged into the web to check several hours later. It's entirely possible that there's a new bug that's causing the behavior you observed, but this is the first possibility that comes to mind. -
Inappropriate?Hey all - my guess is that this is due to Twitter attempting to put Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection in place on the direct messages page.
CSRF is (I believe - http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1611) what allowed that auto-follow problem a little while back.
It seems Twitter was trying to prevent a malicious site from sending dm's as you, but didn't quite do their testing to make sure it worked properly.
This also happened on the "delete direct messages" page a couple weeks ago - please, Twitter, do some unit testing before rolling out changes! Not to mention right before you leave for the day. :-\
Another workaround is to just use "d screen_name message" in the normal update box.
I’m flabbergasted

Inappropriate?Although I find this to be more of a nuisance rather than a problem, I would like to see Twitter acknowledge the issue on the status page. I had no idea I wasn't the only person with this problem until someone else replied to me about it.
Good luck figuring it out, guys!
I’m sure it'll be worked out.
-
Inappropriate?Hey guys, we're aware of the problem and looking into it now.
-
yay :) -
Inappropriate? There's now a post regarding this on the Twitter Status Blog.

Inappropriate? From here, this problem looks fixed. I can d reply straight from people's profiles and from my message page. Thanks! You're the best, twitter guys!
I’m impressed with how quickly this was fixed!

Inappropriate?Yes, I can also confirm that I'm able to click the 'reply' link on the direct messages pages -- both inbox and sent items -- without getting the error.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Thank you, it seems to be working for me again. I wish a staff member would confirm that it is fixed for everyone, though.
I’m feeling punchy.

Methinks "Fixed for everyone" would be a dangerously universal claim for *anyone* to make about *anything* around here ;) -- Glad it seems to be fixed, anyway :)
