Does the twitter archive ever auto-delete tweets after a certain time period?
Do your tweets ever auto-delete after a certain time period? Or are they ALWAYS in your archive?
Background Info:
I'm not so sure if i will use this so much on the social-networking side, but I think I could really see myself using this is a simple form of a blog. I think my main problem when trying to start journals is I write like one huuuge post and then the thought of repeating this daunting task keeps me from ever doing it. I think with Twitter it is actually more of a fun challenge to summarize a day nicely into 140 characters leaving my memory to provide the filler.
Unless there is some huge event or something, a sentence or two would do just fine, just to keep records of what is going on, generally. In the end, pouring out all my feelings into a diary is really not my style anyway. I am a huge fan or archives--i figured I should have some form of record of my own life. So that is the premise upon which my question is based--will Twitter work for my application?

Inappropriate?if you do this, remember that the twitter servers may have issues making your old tweets unavailable for a time. I am subscribed to my twitter rss feed (in google reader) to have a defacto backup of my data.
Perhaps tumblr might be more your style, or friendfeed. But twitter will certainly work if you want to send 140 char updates occasionally.
I’m sticking my tongue out!

Oh that is an excellent idea. Using the rss feature for your own backups puts the management of your archives directly in your own hands. Problem solved--tanks :D -
Inappropriate? For now, Twitter doesn't auto-delete tweets (my oldest tweet is still there and it goes all the way back to Sep 2006).
But on the off-chance that Twitter one day starts to purge the old stuff, I've set up a LoudTwitter account. LoudTwitter creates a daily blogpost on my blogspot blog that contains all the tweets I made in the past 24 hours. So I automatically get a new blog entry on my blog once a day, and I've got my own copy of my tweets stored.
Another service that I know if is Tweetdumpr. This service creates a .csv file that contains a complete dump of all your tweets. It only works with public accounts, though.
P.S.
I'm not sure of this, but I was always under the impression that Google Reader doesn't actually save a copy of the feed contents. Meaning, if Twitter were to remove the RSS feed tomorrow, Google Reader would show an empty feed. But as I said, I'm not sure if this is the case.
I’m in a good mood

Inappropriate?Well it now seems twitter doesn't let you look past page 10 of your tweets! I a bit of warning would have been nice! I really hope I haven't lost all my tweets past page 10 now :(
I’m sad
-
I also just discovered the 10 page limit. Very frustrating. -
This has been discussed on other threads and no Twitter employees have responded as far as I've seen. INCREDIBLY frustrating that we can't even get some sort of reassurance that they will be back eventually or even acknowledgment that they are aware of the issue. -
I'm sad too, I wish I had known, I would have done something to save them myself -
Inappropriate?I like Twitter, but am also frustrated by the disappearing older tweets. If Loudtwitter ever stops working, I'll quit Twitter that same day.

Inappropriate?(Correction to my previous post -- I lost about *five* hundred tweets. Argh!)

Inappropriate? They aren't DELETED, they're just more difficult to access. You can search (http://search.twitter.com/) for specific things and see that they do come up. I can find really old tweets by searching for "keyword, my username."
I AM irritated that I still can't just keep clicking the older button to access my archives though--I've been asking about this for something like two months now and still haven't really gotten an answer from Twitter. When is this going to be fixed?!
I’m still disappointed.
-
Inappropriate? It seems like half the time you can't get near 10 pages; I've seen days where I couldn't go beyond one page, but usually it seems to be 3-4 pages. Distressing.

Inappropriate? We've started to offer download of your personal Twitter archives. This can include not only your messages but also replies. The service is not free but we think it'll be worth it for many people. It operates by using our own index of tweets that we've captured since Dec 2007. If the archive API is reliable we'll see how we can incorporate that. The url is https://www.tweetscan.com/data.php

Inappropriate?Hello. I just stumbled across http://tweetake.com -- it lets you download your followers list, your friends list, your last 1000 tweets (at least that's what it gave me when I tried it), and your favorites. No charge.
It uses the Twitter API, so you'll need to login with your Twitter username and password. If you're worried about security, I suggest you change your password to a throw-away password before using Tweetake, then change it back to your real password afterwards.
Also, since it uses the API, and we're only allowed 100 requests per hour on the API, I suggest you close any third-party apps that you may be using for an hour before trying to use this, so you don't run out of API calls.

Inappropriate? On numerous occasions I have found Tweets going back only 9 days. Most likely they are simply not available as Twiitter has limited space - but at certain times may become available. In the future Twitter may in fact delete older Tweets.

Inappropriate?hey guys. i created a website that lets you download xml or txt versions of all your tweets. check it out and tell me if you have any suggestions...definitely still a work in progress. url is http://www.thesocialarchive.com/
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I'm frustrated too. I created a "Twitter-A-Book-System" that is simple and worked great... as long as people using twitter could go into advanced search, put in their keyword and a date range. I heard Twitter was going to limit retrieval and to my horror that any posts older than 14 days are not accessible. Like many here, I've tried contacting Twitter to no avial. I've tried Tweeting the two twitter founders; no answer. I've tried calling; the phone rings forever and no one picks it up. I've posted at least 3 support tickets and I get canned answers that don't relate. TWITTER, YOUR BUSINESS SKILLS NEED AN "EXTREME MAKEOVER"!!
I tried the Tweetlater RSS feed in Google reader but am unable to go back to the beginning of my journal (I"m 5 weeks in and tweet it on T/W/T/F). Maybe I just don't know how Google reader works; it seems I should be able to retrieve every Tweet sent to it but so far I can't figure it out.
My option now is to use something like LoudTwitter and resend all my journal tweets from the beginning to that blog (over a 1000 tweets now). If anyone is interested (especially programmers) in checking out how the Twitter-A-Book-System works you can go to: http://intro.3circles.net (it's NOT a program at this point but could be; right now it's just a system for keeping track and making the tweets readable).

Inappropriate? We recently released a new service called TwapperKeeper that will archive based upon hash tags... you establish a hash tag and we search twitter for that hash tag and archive it every 5 minutes.
It also allows for additional actions to be included in tweets that can organize the tweets into 5 user defined folders. (i.e. include !P in the tweet to say this is a *presentation*, include !M for *must read*, etc -> all defined when the hashtag is established).
It is in its infancy - and we are looking for your feedback!
Take a look @ http://www.twapperkeeper.com
