In the meantime, I've been relying on the Summize conversation feature to see threaded discussions.
Here's an example: go to this Summize search results page and click the "Show Conversation" link in the first tweet that's displayed.
Summize will display all the tweets that it thinks are part of the conversation and list them in chronological order, leading up to the current tweet.
Although it's not perfect and so far can't show conversations involving several users, I've found it really helpful.
