Feature idea: Ability to permalink to a specific point in your Tweetstream, so the view shows not just 1 tweet, but a page of tweets.
@pistachio had a great idea:
So perhaps in addition to URLs like -- http://twitter.com/username?page=2 (to see the username's 21st to 40th most recent tweets, for example ), perhaps we can have http://twitter.com/username?start=twe... where the tweetnumber is the related id of the tweet that @username sent?
For example, The permalink for the @pistachio's tweet above is http://twitter.com/Pistachio/statuses.... We can have something like http://twitter.com/Pistachio?start=78... to get a page containing 20 updates, with that specific tweet as the first of 20 that are displayed, followed by the 19 tweets that came immediately before that.
This feature is particularly helpful when:
a. I want to easily read a series of tweets that a person has sent from an event (i.e., they live-tweeted the event). With this feature, I can simply bookmark the last tweet in the series, and then page through the older tweets without having to figure out what page they're on now.
b. I follow an "in reply to" link that's erroneously linked to a later tweet and I want to look for the actual tweet to which the reply was addressed
Twitter feature that would ROCK. Ability to permalink to a day/place in time in your Tweetstream. Not just 1 tweet, but a page of tweets.

Inappropriate?I think the second use ("b." above) is especially important. Clicking "in reply to" and getting an unrelated tweet is annoying.
I've also wondered if it might not be possible to add "next" and "previous" tweet links on pages that permalink individual tweets, which could also be a way of dealing with the same problem.

Yes, I had also put in a request for [Next] and [Previous] buttons around a month ago. See http://gsfn.us/t/hc7 (great minds think alike!) -
Inappropriate?I just realized -- there's now a way to approximate the desired results by using the advanced search capabilities of the Summize Twitter Search engine.
They have a search operator called 'UNTIL:' which accepts a date as a parameter. They also have a search operator called 'FROM:' so you can specify whose tweets you want to see.
So for example, if I wanted to see @pistachio's tweets starting from this one that's dated April 6, 2008, I just enter this search parameter into the Summize Twitter Search:
from:pistachio until:2008-04-06 (click the link to see search results)
It's not down to the exact tweet, but it's at least down to the exact day, and it's just a matter of paging through from there.
Obviously this works better if you're a low-volume tweeter. haha! In @pistachio's case, the tweet in question appears on page 2 of the search results (if you've set Summize to show 15 results per page).

Inappropriate? While paging through some search results in Summize earlier today, I noticed that they have a parameter called max_id in the URL of their search results pages. Unfortunately, max_id isn't a search parameter so we can't enter that in our search text box.
However, we can modify the Summize Search URL and add the max_id parameter to the URL itself, to get a permalink that starts at a specific tweet.
Again, using @pistachio's tweet above as the example, I know from looking at the URL of that tweet that its status_id is 783990547
With that in mind, I modify the Summize URL by adding "max_id=783990547&" to the URL string.
So instead of using FROM and UNTIL, like so:
http://summize.com/search?q=from%3Api...
I just use FROM and MAX_ID, like so:
http://summize.com/search?max_id=7839...
And I now have the ability to permalink to an exact tweet in my Tweetstream, but where the page shows not just 1 tweet, but a page of tweets.
Perfect for people who want to permalink a series of tweets from folks who live-tweet events.
