Features or Tools for Mining Twitter - a Wishlist
Laura Fitton, aka @pistachio, has a great blogpost where she enumerates Twitter features or tools that she'd love to have.
See http://pistachioconsulting.com/blog/?... for details
Here's a quick list (you'll find details in the blogpost):
1. Download - let me download my tweets for archiving and mining
2. Threaded Search Results - search Twitter stream for keywords by thread
3. Import / Export of Selected Tweets
4. Keyword "Notes"
5. Followee Extract, with date when they started following
6. Command line interface
7. @erator - identifies statements you made that got the most responses
8. Favorited - which of my tweets were fav'd?
9. Groups
10. Group Twitter Streams

Inappropriate? Thanks for posting this @mdy :-) I didn't really know what Get Satisfaction was, but wow. cool. lots of these are more ideas for developers to build tools for Twitter, but if Twitter itself gets anything from the ideas, cool!

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?I posted yesterday about a similar idea to #1: On Owning my Metadata -- it's kinda weak when you can't get yourself a copy of the stuff you create.
For twitter, at least, the solution is fairly straightforward: point a standalone rss reader at your twitter feed. Look for the 'RSS' box below your twitter page, then shovel that into your NetNewsWire or SharpReader or whathaveyou. (I say standalone because then you know you'll always have your local copy.) I'm assuming such a one will leave the accumulated feed in a sensible and unencoded place; if not, one of them will.
If you're the scripty type every one of the ruby/python/perl family has a well-regarded RSS suite.
I’m digging your list

Inappropriate?Forgot to mention in my original post that #8 Who has Fav'd my tweets? is now available through a service called Favotter (which is not affiliated with Twitter).
Please see this related thread for details.
I’m in a good mood

Inappropriate?Oh my, yes, my apologies for calling them 'features' here when you really meant 'tools' or 'utilities'
To be honest, I originally entitled this entry 'Tools for Mining Twitter,' but I changed my mind at the last minute and added 'Features' because the Twitter API will need to be enhanced before some of these tools can be built.
For example, the Twitter API currently lets us request a list of followers for each authenticated Twitter user, but it doesn't expose or provide the date when each one started following you (which is needed for #5 above).
Anyway, I definitely loved the ideas and thought they should be shared with as many people as possible. 8-)
I’m hoping someone builds exciting stuff with this list!
