Follow attempt failed with "Something went wrong!"

That error message is vague.

It would be nice if the user were prompted to confirm that they really want to follow someone they had previously blocked.

I get this when I click on anybody's follow button and when i try to turn mobile on or off. Basically, anything I try to change I get "Something went wrong! Please refresh the page and try again." But if I just refresh the page it seems to actually do what I clicked???????

Is there anything I can do to help troubleshoot?

Jeff, do you get the same behavior regardless of the browser you use?

Also, has this been happening to you since you started using Twitter, or was this a recent development from a few days ago?

It is now working correctly. not sure why.
I signed up for ustream and it required that I do an update for flash player in IE. Maybe that is it. I also upgraded my real player and quicktime. I have been editing some videos for my MotoQ.

I'm getting this behavior inconsistently - I tried to follow two friends of mine. I could follow one successfully, but for the other I seem to be getting "Something Went Wrong."

I consistently have not been able to add or remove friends.

I am having the same problem. This is the second time I have attempted to use this site. I am about ready to cancel my account.

Starting sometime late yesterday, I have not been able to follow anyone. Any attempt I make to do it pops up the "Something is technically wrong" message. I've tried logging out and then back in and following and still have no luck.

Any idea on the problem?

Can't follow anyone and I'm also unable to accept new followers. I get a 500 internal server error every time. I've started a new ticket for that here:

same problem on the web. also i tried following on mobile safari and it told me i was already following that person (tried with zeldman)

Yup, same here. I tried to follow someone today and got the 'something went wrong' error message. Tried following the same person using a second account and still got the error message.

Seems to be a fairly new problem because I was still getting 'you have a new follower' emails around 7 hours ago (though I must admit I haven't tried following someone new in a while).

I also noticed that @al3x just tweeted something about database failures around 10 mins ago. So I'm guessing we'll get an official status update soon.

Quick update: I'm now able to follow the person that I wanted to follow earlier from both my accounts.

I've been having this issue since Monday. At least the two times I've tried to add anyone.

Also affects my mobile Safari.

I'm still waiting for IM to come back online to sync to my Facebook. That's been over a month. It feels like.

Fixed. Maybe. With some delays.

I saw the Twitter Status update "Update (10:16a): Clients like Twitterific are reporting success again. We’re watching the situation, but consider this issue resolved."

I tried adding people again and it worked. Looks like problem is solved for now. I recommend adding the Twitter Status to your RSS reader.

I did happen to see that Twitter is "over capacity" when I was clicking around, though that was inconsistent.

Me too! Good grief, come on Twitter!! This is ridiculous, you are going to botch job this whole thing because you can not keep things running.

I recommend plurk.com for everyone that is tired of twitter.

I get the error whenever i try to follow anybody. Ive had success 4 times out of about 50 attempts. Took at least 10 attempts to change my update aswell... I've been avoiding using this for ages and im so far not impressed...

Now I get the message everytime I try to follow MisterHijinx.

and once in a while I get
"MisterHijinx's privacy settings do not allow this action."

But not every time.

Is this a problem with my account or his?
I'm am starting to believe this has a browser security/cookie setting issue.

I was having the same problem using the Flock browser, I would try and follow a particular person and received the error mentioned. Then I tried doing the same thing in Firefox and it went through okay.

Tried IE firefox and safari. I don't think it is a browser issue. Maybe a database issue.
It seems like the database has MisterHijinx as locked but it is not telling my browser, so I don't get the lock image??????

If I was blocked, shouldn't I get a different message?

I would hope the programmers didn't use "something went wrong. Please refresh" as the only message.

And I actually get it for everyone I try to follow. But most of the time refreshing shows that it worked.

yeah i have the samee problem... and for some reason i can't chanqe my status or moond.. or can't look at my comments!!!

Wow. I am on here two days and everything seems like a problem! Like this whole site is a big beta test and we're the lab rats :(

I am having the same problem with several people (who have no reason to block me) and get that same "something went wrong etc." message every time. I would like a solution?
