friends_timeline API call suddenly requires auth
Hi,
I've been using friends_timeline for a long time now, and today I've noticed it's asking me to enter my username and password for the API.
http://www.twitter.com/statuses/frien...
Whereas before, regardless of whether I was logged in, or if I wanted to change the username to al3x, I would be able to see the timeline.
What's suddenly changed?? Or more importantly - why?!? I can see the documentation said it required authentication, but the actual API request didn't - so there's functionality built around that feature.
Please, please consider removing this downgrade.
Thank you,
Remy Sharp.

Inappropriate? This prevents my friends' updates from showing up in Google Reader. I hope this was an unintentional change that will be reversed. Thanks!

I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Oh yeah!. and I noticed even if you pass basic auth (username/password) for friends_timeline it still does not work. It says "Could not authenticate you."
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I was relying on this for having a web badge for a "twitter group" showing mobile updates on the frontpage of a website.
How can I do it now?
edit: found an answer from twitter:

I’m confused

Inappropriate? In the absence of an actual fix, a workaround would be to run your feed through freemyfeed.com. They'll take the URL and your login info and give you a new URL for an unauthenticated version of the feed. Take this with the usual caveats regarding giving your password out to random sites, but it does work at least.

I’m satisfied enough to be getting on with life now

Inappropriate?I came up with a solution that works for me for the moment: http://perpetualtypewriter.com/2009/0...
Please, someone, let me know where there are better solutions as well as if there are any updates on Twitter's Friends_Timeline policy.
Thanks!
I’m excited to see what happens next.

Inappropriate?I've had luck using http://username:password@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/xxxxxxxx.rss
password in cleartext is icky, but it's only twitter...
