Hebrew letters "weigh" twice as much as English ones
Hebrew letters apparently count twice (each letter counts as two). Probably due to the way UTF-8 encoding works.
After submission I often get a message saying my update was too long. The counter is correct though. A 71-letter tweet returned an error msg.

Testers: some Hebrew to play around with: ם ס ו
(that's in case you want to try testing the problem but can't type in Hebrew; letters should come out as a square, a circle and a line if you use the right encoding)

Inappropriate?Yes, we've also noticed the same behavior with some of the accented characters, the British pound sign, and emdash. Details are in this related thread.

Thanks .. I was referring to the website updates though (I don't use Twitter SMS). While the SMS problem is on the phone's side, this one's on Twitter's side. -
Thanks for sharing this.
