How about daily and weekly versions of New Follower email?
Not having the New Follower email for the past couple of days made me think about how often I need to know about new followers. I decided that getting an email alert seconds after someone starts to follow me is overkill and becomes a distraction, especially when the new follower is a spammer, which is about 50% of the time for me.
How about adding a consolidated version of that email with two options: weekly and monthly. Most discussion forums include this type of "digest'" option and I think it would work perfectly here.

Inappropriate?I think this is the best solution to "follow spam" .... its actually something that I was going to post as an idea but mdoeff beat me to it :) I think the user should have the option, however. Basically in my settings tab I should be able to select whether I want instant notification or if I want a daily digest or a weekly digest.
Same COULD apply to direct messages but I think that would DEFINATELY have to be an option since many people rely on those emails for real-time communication. Also, it might be handy to add an "hourly digest" for the direct messages as well.
