Inappropriate?Twitter doesn't allow edits, unfortunately. Your only option is to delete the original tweet and post a new one to replace it.

Inappropriate? That's a shame; it would be a useful feature, even if it were only to correct spelling mistakes. Thanks anyway.
I’m unhappy, puzzled

Inappropriate?Remember that Twitter isn't a blog. It's basically a real time status tracker. Once a tweet is made it is broadcast to your followers and in almost all cases it will never be read again after that initial broadcast. No one on twitter cares about spelling because this isn't supposed to be a place that you have to put your best foot forward..... the people who use twitter are people who are interested in being real so aside from the fact that it doesnt make sense to allow edits it really goes against the purpose of twitter.
I’m liking twitter how it is

"almost all cases it will never be read again"
How can you say that? How do you know how people read my account? I know people who scan through a person's day or week on Twitter to see how they are doing. This sounds like making a justification for not having the option, which IMHO there is none beyond possibly bandwidth limitations or some other technical reason. -
Inappropriate? This is just my theory, but I think Twitter tries as much as possible to keep everything simple enough that all user actions can be performed from a mobile phone that only has sms, since the mobile aspect of it is what really sets it apart .
Edits, unfortunately, are one of those things that make perfect sense when you're on a PC, but don't easily transfer to mobile and the other channels (such as the API) that Twitter uses.
I’m thinking there's a method to the 'madness'

Inappropriate?A simple inline edit, easily AJAXed, wouldn't hurt a blessed thing. It's the one thing I feel missing from Twitter. I'd much rather correct a word or URL than type the whole thing over. Not everyone is using their mobile phones or IM to update and/or posting messages for the Twitter community public timeline itself. Also, I can't imagine anyone wanting typos and bad links showing up on their blogs and web sites.
People who are using phones probably don't want or need an edit, but it could easily be integrated into Twitter and apps like Twitterific for those of us who are using its web site integration features, etc. and would definitely use it.
I’m a copy editor quickly learning to hate the trash can.

Very true. I use IM much more than my mobile to update Twitter and I like to form proper sentences rather than text-speak, so typos do matter to me. -
Inappropriate?Hello Spinner,
I am with you. I don't know how to update my updates. I don't even know if it gets posted so I'm glad you asked the question. Perhaps my problem will get solved too.

I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I got to admit. That is a really, really stupid design. I use Jott all the time and there are many times the voice to text doesn't work and I want to edit my post to correct an entry because it is portraying something that isn't what I'm doing. I may end up dropping twitter simply because of this. It becomes borderline useless to me now. Poor design choice guys. Really poor.

Inappropriate?the TRASH button doesnt even work. I mean it's there. It says that there is no UNDO once deleted, but it doesn't delete anything. This has been like that for months now. I wonder if twitter is just going down the garbage as a service
