Inappropriate? What exactly are you trying to import? Contacts, email messages, labels?

Inappropriate?Oops, I'm sorry. I should have read into this a little bit more. I think the reason you can't import from Gmail for Domains is because Google has put the authentication behind Secure HTTP (I ran into this problem with Calendars for Domains and importing to a different system).
I'm not sure how the twitter folks could solve this problem, since Google doesn't have an API for Gmail information, the import from regular Gmail is still a workaround.
I’m hoping that's more helpful

Inappropriate?Apps for domains is the same as gmail for authentication. i just can't type my domain into their import tool. Apps for domains supports SMTP and IMAP so you can do a standards based import.
I’m Annoyed that I can't import people

Inappropriate?Since you started this topic, Google has released a contacts API. The good thing is that now you *can* import Gmail and Google Apps for Domains contacts into supporting apps. The bad news is that Twitter is not yet one of those apps.
There's also one extra step for those of us on Google Apps for Domains: creating a "Google Account" that corresponds to your Google Apps for Domains email address. You can create a Google Account for your hosted email address at this page https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAc.... For example, yourname@hosteddomain.com can be a Google account, which will allow you to import your contacts (as well as sign in to regular iGoogle, Docs, etc.).
After you've done this, you can try importing Google contacts data on Dopplr, one service that has already released support for the Google Contacts API.
I’m sure Twitter will support this pretty soon
