How can someone request to see my private profile?

It says in the FAQ that when I make my profile private, people will have to request being admitted as my followers. But when I log out and go to my own Twitter profile page, it just says 'This is a private profile' and does not show any button to request access. So how can people ever request becoming a follower then?
