How do I send a direct message?

You will not be able to send a direct message to any user unless the two of you are following each other. They must be on your follow list and you must be on theirs.

After both of you are following each other, a link will become viewable on the right sidebar, that says message (username). This link does not appear unless you two are following each other. Clicking that link will take you to a page where you can type your direct message and send it.

Also, if you click the link 'Direct Messages' on your home page, also in the right side bar, you'll be taken to the same page that allows you to send direct messages to others. The page looks similar to your home page, but above the text field, you should see in big letters, "Send (blank) a direct message." That blank should be a drop down list of all the people who you are following that are also following you. Depending on if you've received any direct messages, you might see messages that have been sent to you below the text field. If not, let's hope that you'll be seeing a few in the near future now that you know how to send them!
