I cannot follow new users. Clicking 'Follow' on profile pages does not add them to my follow list.
When I click the 'follow' button on profile pages a box pops up telling me that I am following that user. That box then quickly fades away and the person is not added to my follow list.
This happens with every person I try to add.

Hi Guys,
There are two separate things going on in this thread. The first, and least severe, is the occasional followers/following numbers not accurately reflecting who you're following, and who your followers are. This is intermittent, and something we're aware of and working on fixing; it's tied up with some of the caching issues we've had lately.
Secondly, as of last night, following via the button on the profile page is not quite right. When you click the button, you're added to the person's "followers" list, but they aren't added to your "following" list. You will, however, receive their updates.
The main problem is, you can't see the drop down box to change notifications, nor does the follow button on the person's profile page change to indicate that you've successfully followed the person. We're working on fixing this, and I'll post an update when it's resolved.
In the meantime, you can still follow person from phone, IM, or web box by sending follow+username, like so:

Inappropriate?This problem has started for me recently. Last week I had now problem following new users, but when I tried this morning I ended up as a "following" friend on the new users page, but on my own page there was no record of ever following them.

Inappropriate?Hey, Twitter employees .. if you really want me to use Twitter and not go to some competing service -- I've got many choices -- you'll post help. It says 11 employees are listening. So let's get it moving. I get a box that says I can't follow the person -- something went wrong. Please refresh the page and try again. Done it. Restarted. Re-logged in. Doesn't work. Started Tuesday.

BTW looks like my "follow" request is processed after 30 minutes to 1 hour since I first clicked the "follow" button. So, probably the request to "follow" people may be processed in some lengthy queue. -
Inappropriate?All I want is for it to be fixed. I've got people I tried to follow 24 hours ago and nothing is happening. Worked instantly before that, so something is up.

Inappropriate?this is recent. Following was working two days ago for me and now I can't follow new people. Also reported a similar thing in using the API to Alex. It appears to partially "work" over the API, but the person isn't actually added to the followers list.

Inappropriate?After clicking "follow" on my dev. account couple of times, I'm receiving couple of "xxx is now following you on Twitter" emails. So no matter how you are tempted to click the "Follow" button like a crazy monkey, I wouldn't recommend.

Inappropriate?Yeah it still isn't working for me as I can't follow my Wife. And Yet she is following me. When I look in my followers her name is listed, but if I try to follow her there, I get a pop-up that says, "Something went wrong! Please refresh the page and try again." But in twitters defense my wife is hard to follow IRL too.
Oh and it didn't work when I tried to follow from txt and IM as well. At least, when I go look at her profile, or in my followers it still shows that I do not follow her or get notification.

I just went onto twitter.com logged in as "damon". went to http://twitter.com/ryancarson . Click 'Follow'. Says "You are now following....", but the Follow button remains. Signed out. Repeated steps. Same thing.

Inappropriate?I’m having this problem trying to follow @randomspaces. Using the `follow` command as a workaround as suggested by @crystal does not make things appear correctly. The tweets *do* show up in my timeline though, so I’m giving up for now even though my account is in an inconsistent state. Meh.

Inappropriate?I've been having a problem trying to follow @yarnivore. I was following her, but she disappeared off my list a while ago, and every time I try to add her, I get the "Something went wrong! Please refresh the page and try again" notice.

Inappropriate?The follow problem still exists!!!! I have this problem also and i'm following less than 2000 people. Evidently this problem was fixed about 10 months ago but has resurfaced as evinced by my predicament. what's the problem? This is the 5th post that I have made about this problem and I don't get a response from a real person. I am getting very upset at Twitter's apparent inability to rectify problems. I see a multitude of requests on this page that have not been addressed either. I have a felling that Twitter is not taking it's clients seriously!

Inappropriate?@crystal Please help us. There appears to be a reassurance of this problem that started about 10 months ago. this is my 6th post on this topic. I've tried every avenue that I can think of to get some response out of Twitter, but I'm getting nothing. the people here can not follow others even though we are below the 2000 limit. this is very frustrating as people have followed us and expect to be reciprocated. If one does not reciprocate, sometimes the person feels badly and unfollows you. This screws up the social fabric and makes Twitter a less friendly place. Please fix this bug!
