I don't receive tweets via Gtalk or SMS anymore. I have to come to the website or use Snitter. What's wrong?
I've been using twitter since March and it's been working perfectly over IM. I have it setup on Gtalk.
A few days ago, I started getting tweets via SMS and that was super cool but for the last 2 to 3 days, I've stopped getting tweets via IM and SMS altogether.
I can still send commands from Gtalk like whois and follow, those work. But I don't get any tweets.
I have to constantly check out the twitter.com page from my PC or my phone browser to keep up to date.
Right now, I've had to resort to Snitter, which is fine for when I'm on the PC but when I'm on the move and only have my phone, I'm completely cut off from the twitter-verse.
What could be wrong?

Inappropriate?Hi Luminus. I had the exact same experience as you! 8-)
First, let me ask -- are you outside of the US/Canada (meaning you don't use the Twitter shortcode 40404 or 21212 and instead rely on the UK longcode)?
If yes, then first thing you need to be aware of is that non-US Twitter-ers can only receive a maximum of 250 sms msgs per week.
This means that you'll keep receiving messages until you've received #250, and then they'll stop arriving until a new week begins and you get your new allotment of 250 msgs.
For the official word from Twitter regarding this (including why), see http://dwarfurl.com/425c5
---
I've noticed that when I've hit my 250 msgs/week limit, Twitter gets a bit confused and stops delivering messages to IM/Gtalk.
After several rounds of experimentation, I've found that I'm able to receive Twitter messages via IM if I set my phone notifications to OFF. To do this:
a. login to your Twitter account
b. go to the Devices page (http://twitter.com/devices)
c. set your phone notificaitons to OFF.
It's been my experience that when I do this, the messages start coming into my IM correctly.
If you still don't get the messages in IM even after turning phone notifications OFF, please try deleting and re-creating your IM device settings (making sure that your phone still has delivery set to OFF).
Doing this worked for me and I hope it works for you also.
Cheers!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Mdy,
You're just the best. You guessed right I'm not in North America. I'm in Nigeria so I have to rely on the UK Long code. I've fixed it now by following all the steps to the bottom.
I had to delete the IM and re-create it and it works pefectly. I've set the SMS option to DM.
You're amamzing. Following you on twitter now.
I’m thankful, happpy, excited

Inappropriate?Hurray! I'm so happy it worked for you! *dance of joy*
It was several days of frustration for me too, and it took quite a few rounds of emails with Crystal (who was very patient) until I managed to test enough combinations to figure out how to work around it. 8-)
Like you, my SMS is now limited to DM.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? What do you mean like me, your SMS is now limited to DM. I stole the idea from you in the first place... lol.

Inappropriate?Hi Michael.
1. Could you try sending ON using Gtalk?
You should get a "Notifications are now on" acknowledgment
2. Could you check your notification settings on the sidebar?
a. Login to Twitter
b. Go to your Home page (http://twitter.com/home)
c. Look at the notifications options on the sidebar.
d. Set it to IM if it's not (you won't get IM if it's set to Web)
3. Could you check if your IM notification settings are set to ON?
a. Login to Twitter
b. Go to the Devices page (http://twitter.com/devices)
c. Set IM device to ON if it's not.
If all else fails, the last thing I can think of is to delete your IM device and recreate it from scratch.
I’m uncertain if this will help
