Inappropriate?Click the small arrow to the right of the word 'trending topics', and it will roll-up the topics list and be out of your way.
-
John Adams,
I do not want the "Trending Topics" section "out of the way",
I want the "Trending Topics" section and all of the links associated with this section, off my home page.
Some of the subject titles on these links I find obnoxious
and some I find rude; I would prefer to choose who and what appears on my home page.

Inappropriate? In the current release of Twitter, removing the section all together is not possible. The best you can do is hide it.
-
John, excuse me for jumping in here, but I have the problem that I close trending topics then when I come back to the page it is open again and worse every time anyone visits my page it is always open and the pics of the people I follow is closed??? -
John, I can't make it stay hidden. It keeps opening back up every time I sign out and come back or when anyone visits my page. How do I keep it closed? -
Inappropriate?don i have the same paroblem!!!!!
is there anything we can do to get it off from page?
I’m sad
-
I can't get anyone to answer my question. -
Inappropriate? We'll report that to the engineering team, thanks.
-
Yes, I want to get rid of the trending topics/saved researches. Don't care about that. When will Twitter turn that off? Would like that done a.s.a.p. Thank you. -
Inappropriate?I have the same question but I will go a step further... I follow businesses mostly and it seems that none of them have 'Trending Topics' on their home page and all of them have those they are 'Following' always displayed. There has to be a way because too many have already set up their pages this way. Thanks...
I’m confused
-
You're not seeing trending topics because you're not looking at your page when you look at another person's account. Trending topics are displayed when you view your own timeline. -
Inappropriate?Yeah, I too would love to have the trending topics removed from twitter. Is this being worked on John. And if so what timeline are we looking at?
-
It's not being removed. Having an option to fully remove it is an additional feature which the engineering team will consider implementing. -
Inappropriate?I would also really like having the option to completely remove the "trending topics" from my page. Or, to put it more correctly: I hate seeing it, and I hate when people add ## to every single word in their conjoined twitter/facebook status. I HATE trending topics.
-
Inappropriate?Another vote to have a way to remove it, or close it permanently. I don't like it, and I don't want to see it.
-
Inappropriate?Me too. I have a very offensive link on mine!
-
Inappropriate?I too would like to see an option to fully remove trending topics. I'm not sure that it is doing what it could in its current implementation. It's far too easily abused. If I ever have a small inclination to click one of the listed trends all that displays are spammers who hitch the top trending topics to their completely unrelated posts in order to abuse the system.
To go beyond simply complaining about something I don't like -- maybe Twitter could display a selection of favourite topics that i selected to keep an eye on and have those displayed instead of this generic trending topics section. (somewhat like selecting your favourite subreddits on reddit.) Could I submit this as a feature suggestion?
thanks.
I’m inundated by pop-spam

Inappropriate?I am also sick of seeing the trending topics. I close them but the list is open again when I restart my browser.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I loathe the Trending topics since the Twitterers started to tweet about stupid things like #iwillneverforget and other dumb hashtags that turn Twitter into MySpace! If I want my followers to know such things I don't need to be reminded by a silly FB-like and MySpace-like interface!
If I want to see what my friends do, I'll go overthere, not all use Twitter only for socializing w/ their friends you know?
Please Twitter, act fast!
I’m nervous and annoyed
-
Inappropriate?i love trending topics and now they seem to be gone. no longer on either of my accounts.
I’m sad
-
I can't find mine either - where did they go? -
Inappropriate?I also despise the trending topics. I'm really sick of seeing the offensive topics. We use twitter for business. It's just not appropriate. Can you please devise a way to remove them?
I’m irritated.
-
Inappropriate?I too am disgusted by seeing trending topics - or even knowing that they're even streaming in the background on any page associated with me. But it seems we're all in the same nasty twitter trending topics boat together. Yuck.
-
Inappropriate?@John Adams
do you work for Twitter? I had the same general question, and I have known about the little arrow to "hide" the Trending Topics, but I would like the option to keep it "hidden" on default. I'll repeat what I said on a similar question tonight.
I few months back I sent a trouble question to Twitter help. It has been marked by support as solved or "closed" Well the problem was NEVER FIXED!
Here is the issue:
RE: Side bar and Trending Topics list.
I have noticed that every time I log into Twitter the "Trending Topics" drop down list is already dropped down and my list of people I am following is closed. I prefer it the other way around having the "Trending Topics" list closed and the avatars of the people I am following open.
Is there a way to KEEP THE TRENDING TOPICS LIST CLOSED AS A DEFAULT?
And my FOLLOWING LIST OPEN AS THE DEFAULT?
Before the trending topics list came around (or at least before I noticed it) my Following list was defaulted to open. I like that I do not like having my following list defaulted closed. -
Inappropriate?I see a few people on this thread who use Twitter for business objecting to the vulgar content, but I pretty much exclusively use Twitter to communicate with personal friends, and I can't recall a single time any of us has posted with the Trending Topics earnestly. The only time I see any of us using them is to attempt to subvert the topics we consider offensively banal, and that's an old joke that really has its limits.
All right: basically the one and only time I found Trending Topics worthwhile was during the height of the Iranian election crisis, and never again since. Somehow, I just feel like I have little use for #iminchurch and #rememberbackndaday and #Giants. They don't quite live up to the citizen-journalist promise the election crisis raised, IMO.
I strongly agree with Kirk and many others above. I would absolutely love it if Twitter upgraded with an option to permanently close or remove the Trending Topics bar from just my home page, and permanently display my following list--as in, it won't ever reset when I close my browser. Just something individual users could change in their settings, like background and notification options. I'm sure lots of people love Trending Topics. I neither understand nor sympathize with them, but different strokes and all. This is why we have customizable settings. -
Inappropriate?I'd REALLY love to have the option to disable trending topics. In fact I'd go so far as to say I'd love it if there were a filter to prevent me from EVER seeing ANY tweet that has ANY of the trending topics in it.

These topics are, in my mind, about as useful and worthwhile as a community-sanctioned "FW: FWD: FWD: FW: FW: RE: FW: FUNNIEST JOKE EVER OMG " email.
As far as external means go, there is: this or this, but they both require Firefox (which I don't use).
< EDIT>: As it turns out, this works in Chrome! Hooray! (I'm a Chrome user). < /EDIT>
If you don't use Firefox and still can't stand the painful, distilled idiocy of Twitter's trending topics, the best thing I can suggest is changing the trending topics to an area that speaks predominantly in a language you don't understand (I'm currently listing all the trending topics for Brazil! I have no idea what stupid Twitter memes people in Brazil care about because I DON'T SPEAK PORTUGESE!).
Yeah, Twitter. I KNOW you do good stuff and monitor Iranian election uproars and let everyone feel good about the fact that they put #OMGMalariaIsBad and whatever in their timelines. And I love your service with a passion. But I hate staring into the vacuous abyss that is the collective pithy attention span of the Internet. It breeds trending topics like #Vaginas and #UKnowURGhetto and I hate it.

I’m annoyed.
