Identi.ca and @ replies
I have "show me NO @ replies" checked in my preferences. However, when someone I'm following precedes their tweet with Identi.ca: @username, it shows up in my timeline, anyway. Is there anyway I can make this stop without blocking or unfollowing the person? It seems they are using Identi.ca as both an Identi.ca and Twitter tool. Thanks.

Inappropriate? As far as I know there is no way hide updates from a user that is sending posts to twitter that have text before the @username.
Not sure if it would help to know but the reason that many of us are posting on identi.ca and sending our post back over to twitter has to do with the delay that is built into twitter, and twitter's silence on the restoration of IM / XMPP and the Track feature.
Posts that flow from identi.ca to twitter are posted immediately versus posts that would flow from twitter to another service and the delay that occurs from polling of rss versus the push technology of xmpp.
Many of us are adding the prepend of "identi.ca:" to signify to those on twitter that identi.ca is where the openness happens to be right now. If that breaks your personal usage of twitter enough to warrant unfollowing that individual you have that choice. I don't want to annoy my twitter friends but I also dont want to just ditch them. I care about twitter and I want to see them do the right thing. The technology is important. I hope that answers your question.
We are using a bridge like this one, http://bridge.kshep.net/ to post to twitter. -
Inappropriate? It seems to me that this is a bug with identi.ca, not Twitter. Generlaly, these things add the "from..." at the end, not the beginning.
I'm happy I haven't seen any of this yet. I'm annoyed enough by the "posted from FriendfFeed" notices. -
Inappropriate?Prepending identica: or twitarmy: (leolaporte's laconica site which federates with identica) is a bridge user's ~option~. You can choose no prepend, in which case twitter will deal with @replies according to user defaults.
Many people using the bridge prefer the prepend because...
a) we want to make it clear where "home" is, unlike the many twitter users who ping or xpost to identica but ignore attempts at replying to them there.
b) twitter doesn't currently allow "from identica" as part of the post a la "from twhirl" etc.
& perhaps most importantly...
c) we've discovered that seeing @replies is a ~huge~ advantage when it comes to discovering interesting people, and more importantly becoming a part of interesting conversations in progress. Many key conversations about implementation of features like IM, track, etc very quickly involve the people who have brilliant things to contribute. Often, when founder @evan replies to someone's question about identica, you can check out the "in reply to" link and realize that he's answered a question you had. it's an invaluable tool which you miss out on if you don't see @ replies regardless of following status.
Yet the bottom line is this: the identica bridges were implemented by independent developers to meet the desire of users to ease their transition to an open & federated microblogging system by keeping those in their social graph who choose to stay on twitter updated on their lives. If twitter ever decides to adopt an open microblogging format, such bridges would become unnecessary and communication will be more seamless.
You too could come to identi.ca and bridge to twitter to keep your friends up to date. the choice to prepend or not is yours, as is the choice to follow someone who does prepend.

I’m delighted developers gave us the option to bridge.

Inappropriate?Hi exador23. 8-)
Do you think the bridge developers will be willing to enhance the bridge so that its users can specify whether the text appears at the start or at the end of a bridged 'dent?
Also, on the (very) slim chance that a source parameter has not yet been requested for the Laconi.ca to Twitter Bridge, there's a Source Parameter Request Form at http://twitter.com/help/request_source for third-party apps.
Only the app developer can submit a request, though, and they'll need to be logged into a Twitter account to submit a request.

thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to the developers.
