If you exceed the "Maximum Number of hourly requests" how long must you wait to twitter?
I was unaware that there was a maximum number of hourly requests and exceeded it. Now I can't do anything, how long do I have to wait to have access to the service again?
I just want to know so I can avoid mistakes like this in the future.

Inappropriate?The Twitter API documentation says:
"Clients are allowed 70 requests per sixty (60) minute time period, starting from their first request. This is enough to make just over one request per minute, per hour, which should meet the needs of most applications.
Rate limiting applies only to authenticated API requests; requests for the public timeline do not count. POST requests (ex: updating status, sending a direct message) also do not count against the rate limit."
I’m in a good mood

Inappropriate?Okay, thank you for the clarification, I will make a note of the API documentation location.
Problem is, it has been over 19 hours since the last allowed update on my account.
I understand the API limitation and what it is meant to protect against, and it was my fault entirely for exceeding the limit, however, I am still unable to post updates to twitter.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? The API says that POST requests, such as updating your status, are not part of the rate limit. Therefore the rate limit can't be the reason that you can't post updates to Twitter.
Is it possible that your account has been flagged for review?
See http://gsfn.us/t/7kj -
Inappropriate?I suppose that it is possible, although I have no idea how I would find out. I have received no direct communication from Twitter regarding the status of my account.
My account was not up long enough to make more than 3 updates. At this time I am following only 23 people, so I don't see how that would be an issue.
If my account has been flagged for review, it would be nice to know, but this is the only venue I have for communication with Twitter.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? There is a web form where you can submit a specific support request...?
See http://twitter.com/help/ -
Inappropriate?i am getting the "Unfortunately you've exceeded Twitter's maximum hourly requests. Please check back in a bit." alert but I've had TwitBin shut down for several hours and I'm still getting that notice.

Hi Jan. Is it possible that you are using other third-party services that are also eating into the rate limit? If you're not sure, you can always change your Twitter password temporarily so that any third-party services will not be able to access your account.
Also, you can check what your account's current API limit is at this link: http://twitter.com/account/rate_limit... (login required).
It should return something like this:
< hash>
< remaining-hits type="integer">93< /remaining-hits>
< hourly-limit type="integer">100< /hourly-limit>
< reset-time type="datetime">2008-09-30T06:55:38+00:00< /reset-time>
< reset-time-in-seconds type="integer">1222757738< /reset-time-in-seconds>
< /hash>
The "remaining-hits" number indicates how many API calls you can still make within the current hour, and the "reset-time" indicates when you can get another 100 requests (the timezone is in GMT)
There were reports months ago in other threads of people having negative "remaining-hits". If your account has a similar problem, you may need to file a support ticket at http://twitter.com/help so someone from support to look at it. Otherwise, I do suggest changing your password for an hour or so to see if that makes a difference. If it does, then there's a good chance it's another third-party app. -
I think there's something wrong with TwitBin. I'm getting the same error, but only from TwitBin, and only one one machine. It works fine on my other machine, and Twitteriffic works fine on this machine; and the API reports I have plenty of limit left. So I dunno what's up. -
Inappropriate?I'm moving my miniblog from some other host to twitter, and I have a similar issue. I posted around 60 messages within an hour, then the system warns "Wow, that's a lot of Twittering! You have reached your limit of updates for the hour. Try again later." I usually have to wait several hours (and the number of hours varies, for unknown reason) after the warning to post anything new. The warning just keeps coming back in those hours.
If it's an hourly limit, I should be able post new things after one hour, right?
BTW, I'm posting from web only and have turned off all twitter APIs and shut down all the bundlings from other websites with twitter.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Hi. I am getting the "Unfortunately you've exceeded Twitter's maximum hourly requests." error message. My account is @tellsecret. it is an anonymous tweeting service. http://TellSecret.com since thousands of people can post here, how can I have the limit extended or removed?
