I'm not getting any SMS notifications from Twitter anymore. Is the European SMS service down at the moment?
All the notifications on my profile are set to "on", but if anyone sends me a direct message or updates their twitter profile, I am not notified of this anymore. Is there a problem with the UK Twitter number? Is the SMS notification service down?

Inappropriate?I'm also dependent on the UK Twitter SMS gateway and I was still getting messages a couple of hours ago.
Is it possible that you've already received 250 SMS messages from Twitter this week? That's the max number of tweets that we're allowed to receive each week.
To check if you've reached your limit, try logging in to Twitter, and go to http://twitter.com/home
On the sidebar on the right side, you'll see some numbers, and one of those numbers should read:
"Received SMS: #/250"
where # is the total number of messages you've received this week.
If it reads 250/250, then you've reached your maximum and will only start receiving tweets again at the start of the next week.
For the official word from Twitter regarding this, see http://dwarfurl.com/04788f (which is another question here on Get Satisfaction).

Inappropriate?Hey mdy,
thanks for your answer, but unfortunately it does not solve my problem.
I checked everything and I had only received 5/250 messages so far... that's nothing!
I've tried just reentering my phone number... deleted the mobile number and reentered it, verified it again and now am gonna see how it goes...
Now the "meter" reads 1/250 ....
I hope this will get solved soon, cuz how much fun is twitter without being able to use my phone for updates or notifications... yes, exactly... no fun at all.

Inappropriate?I'm from Indonesia, and the SMS system seems to be down too. I have 1/250 SMS and not a notification.
Also, the invite system seems to be down too. I had a hard time convincing my friends to twitter, and sent invites only to have them asking, dude where's this sms you want me to join?

Inappropriate?Hi flobee.
Rats -- I was hoping there would be a simple explanation. I guess there's more to it, then...

Inappropriate?I'm in Canada, and just found out I've used up my 250 SMS messages. What gives? I thought this affected European Twitter users only?

Inappropriate?I'm in the UK and haven't been receiving notifications by SMS for over a month now - so definitely not a problem with having hit my quota. I've also tried turning SMS notifications off and then back on again, to see if I could kick start them back into action but still nothing. Although I get notifications in my browser, thanks to twitterfox, this is no use to me when I'm not at a computer.
I’m annoyed and disconnected

Inappropriate?Same problem too, I'm from the Philippines and I haven't been receiving updates for 2 days now. My received sms counter is at 48 for this week. I also tried turning it on and off. I don't know. Maybe the problem is at Twitter, or maybe on my phone's network?
Yes, this would all be a lot better if the sms system worked.

Inappropriate?I think they're trying to figure out how to recoup some of the cash they've spent sending so many out in the first place. Probably be a trickle of SMS until they can start making money now...
I’m growling.

Inappropriate? For what it's worth, I use the European sms service and every now and then I stop receiving updates, as if my notifications have been turned off (even though I didn't turn them off).
It gets fixed when I text "ON" to the European number. I've not had to re-create or re-set my device in http://twitter.com/devices since December 2007. Turning it "ON" fixes it.
After I use up my 250 sms/week, I don't need to turn it back on when the new week starts -- the tweets just start coming in by themselves.
It would be great if there was a non-SMS way to turn mobile notifications back on, since sending an international sms isn't cheap. Changing the settings in http://twitter.com/devices doesn't seem to have the same effect on mobile notifications the way sending "ON" to the European number has.
I’m looking forward to the day my notifications don't turn off by themselves.

Inappropriate?I just signed up today and am in the US, but I have not received a single tweet on my phone. Is it just me or is there a system-wide problem?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? It doesn't seem to be a system-wide problem because the last tweet I received via sms was 3 minutes ago.
Here are a few steps you can try to help with troubleshooting:
1. Go to http://twitter.com/devices (you'll need to login). Could you check if your phone is verified, and if notifications are set to ON?
2. Go to your home page (http://twitter.com/home). Could you check the sidebar to see if notifications are set to SMS, IM, or web-only. You'll need to set it to SMS before you can receive messages.
3. Go to the list of people you're following (http://twitter.com/friends). You'll notice that for each friend, there's an indicator if you want Notifications to be ON or OFF. By default, notifications are OFF when we first follow someone. You'll need to set Notifications to ON for each friend whose updates you want to receive on your phone.
If all of the above are okay, then please use your phone to send 'ON' to Twitter and see what happens. If your phone is properly set up, you should get an sms response saying that 'notifications are now on' (and hopefully that will be enough to fix it).

Inappropriate?twitter sms was working for me up until about 3 weeks ago. I tried to move my device from my work account to a new personal account. My txt to 40404 says it's sent but I never get a verification from Twitter. I've also just tried sending a general command ("get biz") as stated in the support page to 40404 and nothing. I've even had a friend try from their cell phone with a different carrier still nothing. I know short codes can work because txt'ing to Google works fine and instant. I'm in the North East USA
