Importing/Backup Twitter Status'
Importing, Backing Up, and Exporting Twitter Status'
First, here's what I've found that is already doing the export, it allows you to export your contacts as a CSV file... http://bradkellett.com/tweetdumpr/ (limited to the first 250 most recent status updates). It's still very limiting.
However there is a problem that is not addressed. How do you import what you've exported? It makes sense you can't doing anything with your exports if you can't import them anywhere.
In addition to importing the status, this function should keep the date/time of the original twitter status, that's part of what makes twitter powerful.
An alternative solution to the problem....
Another solution to this is Twitter creates an tool that functions internally to allow the importing from from one account to another keeping the dates and times legit (and whatever other tracking information) as Twitter doesn't want bad information to be imported. I see this as a awesome tool for anyone changing account usernames, or making a backup of their Twitter status. That's my reason for becoming interested in this topic.
I would highly recommend Twitter working on this or a tool similar to this.

Inappropriate?Hi Nathan. If your main objective is to change the username, you can do so at http://twitter.com/account/settings (without having to go through an export-and-import process).
When you change the username, all properties of the original account (followers, friends, replies, favorites, updates) remain intact. Only the username has changed.
Note: As soon as you change the old username to a new one, the old username becomes available again (to everyone). So if you intend to use the old username with a new account, I suggest you create the new account as quickly as possible to reclaim the old username using the new account.

Inappropriate?That worked!
The only thing I would add to what you said, is 1) the username becomes available *immediately* (this was important fact/keyword because needed to swap usernames) and 2) not "only" the username is changed, but the URL is also changed.
I’m Glad I got another way to accomplish the same thing.
