Incoming SMS tweet with an "@" symbol in it is blank after the "@".
Any incoming SMS tweet with an "@" symbol in it is blank after the "@". This happens on all U.S. Cellular phones, and I've heard it happens on other carriers as well. This was fixed on Verizon phones recently (see http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to...") , but customers of other carriers have been left neglected. I know it takes getting a lot people together to fix this type of issue, but when half your tweets are blank it makes Twitter almost useless.

Hey guys,
We once had a problem with Verizon truncating text after the @ reply. So, if you said "@crystal woot!" I would only see "@crystal ..." That bug is fixed.
We then had a similar bug with Alltell, Cellular South, and US Cellular. This bug is still open, and still a problem. I have the following people down as experiencing this bug:
piontekdd, US Cellular
brett jackson, carrier?
ITistic, Alltel
boberthepker, U.S. Cellular
sarahvancamp, US Celluar
DrHogie, Cellular South
AceFrye, US Cellular
Magicalstephie, Alltel
sarahcofer, US Cellular
monkeyknuckle, US Cellular
forceflow2, Alltel
robertsm85, U.S. Cellular
pinknacho, US Cellular
eltonpruitt, Alltel, PPC6800
furiousIdeas - Samsung r500 Hue, Alltel
HaloHoo - Samsung 5500 Hue, US Cellular
We do care about it, and we are working on fixing it. It requires work between Twitter, Twitter's SMS provider, and the providers listed above. I'll try to have a better looking update for you by the week's end.
Thanks!
Crystal

Inappropriate?Forgot to mention, my Twitter username is boberthepker.
-
Inappropriate?piontekdd is my Twitter username. This happens to every U.S. Cellular Twitter user I know. Sending regular SMS or email messages to my phone with '@' in them work fine, btw.
-
Inappropriate?Ok. That explains why I keep getting bombed with blank tweets. Thanks!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I am also having this problem. My carrier is Cellular South. The few other twitter users I know on CellSouth are also having this problem.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have this issue too! Please Twitter, fix this, it makes Twitter unusable for me if I do not have a computer around.
Twitter name is AceFrye & I am with US Cellular.
I might also mention I am a part of #dmtweetup & we do quite a bit of chatting but I can not read people's replies with this "@" issue.
I’m am not happy about this...
-
Inappropriate?Alltel carrier, username magicalstephie
I’m annoyed because I'm paying for useless texts
-
Inappropriate?Ah. Finally I have found out what the problem is with my @replies. It's U.S. Celluar's fault.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate? Can you be a bit more specific as to the 'fault' of U.S. Celluar??
-
Inappropriate? No, it's not U.S. Cellular's fault because normal SMS with @ symbols in them come through fine. It's just SMS from Twitter that have the problem. As noted above, customers from other carriers are also having this same issue. I JUST WISH SOMEONE FROM TWITTER WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND REPLY TO THIS THREAD.
I’m frustrated
-
Someone from Twitter has already acknowledged this issue, but right now Twitter is dealing with worse problems that may result in Twitter not working. I would rather have Twitter working & have this small issue with @ replies, than no Twitter at all. -
Inappropriate?Everyone,
I do not think we need to keep ranting about this, simply leave your username & carrier here. Twitter HAS acknowledged this issue -- http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to... -- and if you noticed: Bobert, the one who started this topic, said that Twitter was not paying attention over there.
Well, I have news for you people, they are paying attention. As you can see here, http://status.twitter.com/ on the right side column the "User Discussion Forum" is linked to the Get Satisfaction page. I don't think they would do that if they did not pay attention over here. They also replied over there with the fact they knew about it, they are working on it, & to leave your username & carrier.
Things like this take time because it is not 100% Twitter, they need to work with all of these wireless carriers as well & that means that Twitter can not just *fix* the issue themselves on their time schedule but that means that Twitter has to wait on these companies too. (I might also note that US Cellular is notoriously slow for working with companies [which is why you don't see Facebook or MySpace with any kind of USC support])
As I mentioned above in reply to Bobert, Twitter has bigger issues right now & I personally think they have done an extremely good job at being transparent about the issues they are having, what is being fixed, what they *know about* to be fixed, & more.
I’m confident that Twitter will fix this with time.
-
let me say this about US Cellular. it's not so much that they are notoriously SLOW about working w/ other companies....you're not really making a fair statment in that....you're comparing a regional carrier to NATIONAL carriers. their network isn't HUGE like say Alltel, Sprint/Nextel or ATT. In time, the interfacing may be something they are able to do like the larger networks...but it's not that they DON'T...it's that their network isn't as large as the others, so they can't. Just like w/ Twitter, it's not that they AREN'T doing something about all this...it's that it takes time... -
Inappropriate? The last thing a Twitter employee mentioned was that they thought it was fixed. All I want is for them to come back and say they are aware the issue is ongoing. That hasn't happened.
-
Inappropriate?i have this same issue. allconsoffun. and i also use USC. but when i get my sms notifications when someone replies to me it just says the user's name. and the rest of the txt is blank. also in the last 2 days, i started getting replies from folks who are replying to other users whom i've also replied to?!?!? hopefully patience will be the key here. i'm sure twitter will fix it asap ;)
I’m puzzled
-
Inappropriate?hi guys,
we're looking into this problem, we had a similar situation with Verizon awhile back. I'll post an update here when we have more news.
cheers,
Crystal -
Inappropriate?Thank you Crystal for looking into this. I greatly appreciate it.
Carrier: U.S. Cellular
Username: boberthepker
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I have the same issue (sarahcofer) and use US Cellular. Please note it has been an issue for nine months and I am just getting around to looking at why! NOT that big of a deal, just wondered why it happened.
I’m perplexed
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem also, "monkeyknuckle" on Twitter, US Cellular customer.
I've narrowed it down to @ msgs directed to other people. So, someone I follow sends an "@" msg to someone I do or don't follow, I get a copy in my timeline and on my phone, but my phone locks up, sometimes reboots automatically, otherwise I have to pull the battery..Frustrating ... doesn't happen to directs sent to me. Nor does it affect my fiancee who is also a US Cellular customer. She has a different phone, tho.
