I am wondering how much it will cost to sign up for the mobile alerts. I have free text messages but premium ones are not free for me. I do no wish to incur a fee for using this service but I am interested in giving it a try.

Inappropriate?Hello. A lot depends on the phone plan that you have with your mobile carrier. Some countries do not charge to receive sms regardless of where it comes from, while some of the countries that do charge to receive sms may offer unlimited sms plans for a fixed fee.
I think your best bet is to call your mobile service provider and ask them what they would charge your account if you were to receive an sms from Twitter. -
Inappropriate?I am in the US and use Verizon. Texts to and from twitter appear as normal text messages - not premium ones - and are covered in my plan. AFAIK, this is the same for all US carriers.
