I didn't seem to have this problem on Twitterific, but Twinkle and Twittelator only pull the last 20 tweets from the all friends page... what gives?

These are just regular clients, the authors of them did not set the clients up to pull more than 20 tweets from the friends_timeline, this is nothing to do with Twitter itself.
