Is Track consider a part of the Twitter IM distribution channel?
Could someone from Twitter please address whether or not the 'Track' function will be restored when IM is brought back online. There was a mention that 'track' currently should work with SMS -- I haven't tested that. Please comment, your lack of openness on this issue is troubling.

Inappropriate?Track isn't working for me via sms right now. I haven't received any track alerts in well over a week via sms, even though a search on Summize shows tweets that contain my tracked keywords.
I also don't receive a response right now when I send 'track' via sms.
IM was taken offline on May 23 to help stabilize the system. Perhaps Track was taken offline as well for the same reason.
Fwiw, I get the impression that Track will be back, for the following reasons:
1. In early May, @goldman talked about enhancing track so that it recognizes our block list in another thread.
2. In early May, @al3x said in the Twitter Development Google Group that they'll be making improvements to the Track feature. Deployment of those improvements were most likely delayed by the site instability.
3. And finally, Twitter posted a video presentation by @jack a day or two ago on the Twitter blog. In the presentation, @jack talked about the Track feature.
So although there's no official word in this forum about the status of the Track feature, the fairly recent statements above by different Twitter representatives give me the impression that Track will be eventually be back, and that it is only temporarily offline. -
@mdy, thanks for the reply and the pointers. (I followed you, you may follow me at @cgerrish). Just to be clear, have you been able to use 'track' via SMS while the IM functionality was down? I'm trying to pin down the state of Twitter's system. -
Track via sms hasn't worked for me in over a week. -
Inappropriate? The Twitter Status blog has a new post that says:
Also, Track is not working currently via SMS. This is a bug not a limit. We’re looking into it.

Yeah, I saw that note on status.twitter.com. I'm trying to understand whether 'track' is baked in to SMS and IM -- and when those services are fully restored, will 'track' return with both IM and SMS.
The mention of 'track' and SMS is one of the few mentions of the feature. I don't use it via SMS because I don't have unlimited texting. But I do use it through the IM client -- which is currently not available. -
Inappropriate?Afaik, Track settings apply at the account level. So you can't choose to track one keyword by sms and a different keyword by im. That's actually a feature that I'd like to see.
Track uses both sms and im as delivery channels. So for example, when you send the 'track off' command, you stop receiving track alerts in both sms and im.
However, if I remember right, you have to have your phone or IM devices set to "ON" in http://twitter.com/devices before you receive Track alerts.
So, for example, if you've set your phone to "OFF" in http://twitter.com/devices, then Track alerts aren't delivered to your phone via sms at all. Instead, they're only delivered to your im if you happen to be logged into im and have your im set to ON.
I'm not in the US, so Twitter limits me to only 250 sms per week. So I work around the sms limitation by having two Twitter accounts. One account is linked to my phone and only tracks a few keywords. The other account is linked to my im account, and that tracks A LOT of keywords.
