log-in problems/other user with same name

I signed up for twitter a couple of months ago. Whenever I try to sign in, I get a an error message saying I have the wrong email and password combination. When I try to reset my password, twitter tells me my email address isn't registered (although I've gotten email from Twitter on that account). Now, if I then click "home" I get all my normal friend updates, but if I go to my old username (ohgoodness) I see two updates that aren't from me and all my old updates are gone. What gives?
