I am not receiving some of my twitter updates on my phone! Sometimes messages are late by hours, or never show up. (Carrier is AT&T)

Elizabeth, if you're in the US and being asked to send sms to the UK, then it's likely that your phone number hasn't been entered in the format that Twitter expects.
Twitter expects phone numbers in the format countrycode areacode phonenumber (with no spaces and no leading zeroes)
For example, +12125551122 where
+1 is the country code for the US
212 is the area code
5551122 is the country code -
