Nolonger recieving twitter SMS updates.
At the end of last week suddenly I stopped recieving twitter SMS updates. I checked my quota and it was a mere 63 out of 250 so that was not the issue. I have IM turned OFF, Im using Three Mobile in the UK with the twitter number as: +447624801423
Notifications are ON. I have been developing a bot in which I have been testing. I still recieve all my updates to my twitter account yet they do not sent to my mobile. Is there an inactivity detection process to eleminate non-participating mobiles or anything that may have tunred my device off:?

We're still researching reports of SMS messages stopping; one thing to note if you're using the international number:
When we send SMS to your phone and get no reply from your phone's network confirming that the SMS was delivered to you, we turn off notifications automatically to avoid sending twitters into space. This usually happens when there is a problem communicating with your mobile service provider's network.
The reason sending an update will turn notifications back on is this: we receive the update, and it is a successful communication from your phone to us. This means we know your phone is able to send/receive, so we can reinstate your most recent notifications setting, which is ON. Sending an update via SMS is a great way to make sure your phone is delivering SMS messages to Twitter.

Hey folks,
Our team is still working diligently on this issue. We have a very detailed whiteboard in our big conference room with our debugging approach. Unfortunately, with SMS, we don't control the last mile. There will be situations where we hand off the SMS to the mobile carrier successfully and it doesn't reach your mobile.
Again, thanks for your patience! I'm personally a big fan of Twitter by SMS, so I hate to see this fail.

all of my contacts in portugal are having the same issue, over and over again. as far as i can tell twitter is dead on this part of the word. it sucks.

Inappropriate?I've tried turning notifications on and off from the phone, from the web interface, tried removing and adding my phone, tried even to turn off and back on notifications from individual twitter friends, no messages arrive, not even direct ones. I never go over my quota.

Inappropriate?a couple of months ago there was a problem with the international number, and twitter support promptly posted a warning, asking people to start from scratch with the phone setup. and we did, and everything just worked.
i wish we had the same luck this time, instead of just being left on the dark for days, looking for an alternative. some people actually depend on this, and it's really annoying that we get no news... after all the troubles we had with twitter, for more than a year now, i would expect something different...

Inappropriate?I've been having this problem for quite a while on and off. However in the last week or two I have hardly received any sms from twitter. It's highly frustrating as this is the main reason I use Twitter. My wife and I send each other direct messages and are unable to receive them. I use Remember the Milk and never receive my reminders, the same with timer and Mr. Gcal and the Twitter people I follow.
Most days this week I have switched off notifications and then switched them on again, but it doesn't seem to have helped
I am on an Orange contract if that is helpful to know!

Inappropriate?Still not working. I'm not receiving direct messages, even ones from 'Remember the Milk'. I was planning on using Twitter direct messages for an application for our customers, but it doesn't seem to be stable enough. It's a real shame.
I think we need to start a campaign entitled "WE WANT OUR SMS'S BACK!"
Please, please Twitter, sort it out for us. I'd even be grateful to have a Twitter Pro service where you charge something like $20 for priority support. Otherwise Twitter isn't something we can properly rely on, especially when it's used for projects and business ideas...

here in the philippines, cellphone users are not charged for the msgs they receive. you are only charged if you send a text message.
here comes twitter with its free sms updates...
our local telcos are now forced to handle additional 250 msgs per twitter account owner per week, i.e. asssuming they all reach their limit.
250 msgs and multiplying that with the number of filipino twitter users and what you will get is *probably millions* of additional text messages per week of which our local telcos are not receiving any fees at all.
is it too far out to think that they would do something about those text messages ?
maybe disable acknowledgment of sent messages so that twitter will automatically turn off our sms updates ?
or worse, maybe just discard the messages as if they were not received at all ?
of course, these are just speculations on my part...

Inappropriate?I assumed that people everywhere in the world didn't have to pay to receive text messages. I've never had to pay to receive sms's. There is a concern that I have that mobile phone networks are blocking messages sent to and from Twitter, but I haven't heard this officially.
On another thread, an official Twitter Rep said that sometimes Twitter stops sending sms updates when they don't receive confirmation that the message was sent. Maybe this is the problem? Are our mobile networks not sending the confirmation?
Twitter don't seem to be officially saying that there is a problem. Are many other people still having this problem? I'm still receiving no messages and I have used none of my week's allocation yet.
I assume this is a world wide thing. I am based in the UK, but it seems that other people round the world are having problems. However, I expect people in the US are not having any problems.
What providers and what countries are people from that are having these problems?

but my girlfriend is using TMN PT and she also reports the same issue: some get to her phone, some don't.
a friend is getting no messages at all, he's also on TMN.
my sister gets no messages also, and she's using OPTIMUS PT. -

if i decide not to send any messages at all from my phone, and share my number with everyone (i could even post it here) and ask people to send messages all day long, the result would be the same... or similar.
when i talk about censorship i'm talking about a company that gave you no warning they would do this, simply doesn't deliver messages as they should, and i consider that censorship.
can the post office stop giving you your mail when it was not posted in you own country ?? -

when i said 'proper business sense', i was referring to the train of thought that those telco owners/operators will be having regarding those millions of text messages that they will be processing without any returns on their investments.
this would be similar to a trucking service where everytime that the driver goes out to make a delivery, somebody is hitching a ride.
you're right, you can post your number and people can start sending you text messages. but then they will be charged a very expensive international text msg fee which will in the end discourage those same people from sending you text msgs.
this is not so with twitter. you can keep on updating your twitter account and all the people following you will receive those updates for free.
and the telcos are burdened with the millions of twitter updates all of which they must also process for free.

i know that they're not making money with all those messages, and i have no doubt that they're in this for the money.
i just feel that the game had rules (i shall get all the messages people send me), and they're kinda changing them because somebody found a way to have fun.
and, even if it's for a small number of users (i have no idea how many), they do get some money back. i'm sure some people send some of their twits via sms, and for us that means international fees, either because you're out and about and have no data plan, or their cellphones don't even have 3g/wifi/whatever... -
Inappropriate?Actually, my tax dollars pay the post office to deliver mail to me, whether I want private delivery (via paid stamps) or not. I don't disagree with you in some ways, but I am not so sure about your analogy.
I think that the crux of the disagreement I'm seeing in this discussion is that some people feel that all these communications should be free, while others admit that these communication resources are not infinite: someone does pay for these pipes.
Which is not to say that SMS delivery shouldn't be free. I think it should. Big companies that provide the SMS pipeline would probably disagree with me, though. And you.
