Opt-out of notification SMS messages for ON and OFF
I would love to opt out of the notification message that is sent via SMS when I turn SMS notifications "off" (and even "on" for that matter.) It is really redundant once you've been using Twitter for over a year and you turn notifications on and off once or twice a day.
I'm trying to save on text messages during the day so I can avoid moving to an unlimited plan. I turn it off when I'm in front of a computer so I can have them on via IM, and these additional notifications really add up.

Inappropriate?Hello. Is it correct to assume that you have both IM and phone devices correctly added and verified and that both are in one account?
If yes, could you kindly:
1. go to http://twitter.com/home and set your device notifications to IM in the sidebar of your homepage
2. go to http://twitter.com/devices and set both IM and phone to ON.
Unless Twitter recently changed the way they deliver their notifications, the expected behavior is as follows:
1. Twitter will send new updates, direct messages, and track alerts to IM whenever you're logged into IM. Because you've selected IM in your homepage sidebar, you won't receive anything on your phone while you're logged in via IM, even if you have your phone device verified and ON.
2. As soon as you logout of IM, Twitter will see that you're no longer reachable via IM. Twitter will also see that you have a phone device enabled, and so will automatically redirect all new updates to your phone, even if you didn't send ON via SMS.
3. As soon as you log back into IM, Twitter will see that you're once again reachable via im and will redirect all new updates to your im, and stop delivering to your phone, even if you didn't send OFF via SMS.
I had my account set up this way a few months ago, which was how I learned about this behavior. I recently removed my phone from my device settings, though, so I'm not 100% sure if Twitter still behaves this way.
I’m hoping this works for you

Oh this makes sense! I was wondering what that homepage sidebar setting did. I hope this works, because it's so smart! Thanks! -
Hopefully they'll bring the IM feature back so this is possible, because right now I can't even explore this as a potential solution. -
Inappropriate?I like this functionality, however I believe it could be improved upon. My computer at home is always signed in to gtalk. I believe that to improve this, if an account is marked as away or idle on gtalk to automatically activate the phone, instead of only if they are signed off.
